Lemonhead, I only got the "wait" letter but mistook it for the "no" letter for the simple reason that I didn't know they were so nuanced as to have TWO letters. The principal told me yesterday that she double checked and I definitely got the "wait" letter. When I asked if she thought, off the record, she'd have jobs next year, she said, "I hope so." (shrug)

The places I interviewed have all sent letters, immediately. Online applications have not been acknowledged so far.

So send me your good vibes on Thursday at 10 PDT. I'll be having a "formal" interview (step three of four to getting an offer). I've had the screening and the two hours spent observing another teacher at the school; then after the formal interview, if I pass, I'll do a demo lesson and hopefully get an offer. Whew!

On Monday 4/7 I have a screening with my own neighborhood district. I hope they don't ask why I send my own kids to an alt. public school outside our district.

You are probably right. They probably haven't posted yet. You know how your mind goes through too many scenarios while you sit and wait. As for the other postings, yes, I have called(only get sec.) they no nothing yet. So, I don't want to keep calling and bugging them. Since they are still posted, I have hope.

Though this is a frustrating process, I have to say...Everyone on A to Z has been amazing. You all have the best advice and humor. Totally keeps a girl motivated:up:

Well, today is a bad day..not for anything in particular....just getting tired of waiting and nothing happening, no more postings (in my certification), no calls, nothing. Furstrating to say the least!!

jw, I'm sure that more jobs will post all at once and you will be bombarded with them. :)

Shelly, I'll be sending good vibes your way!!

    SmallTownGal, your vibes were received!

I went to my interview today. It was with the principal, two 2nd/3rd grade combo class teachers, two board members who are parents there, and the curriculum specialist. I found out it is for a 2nd/3rd grade combo class. It went really well. My philosophy matches theirs, and I had relevant examples for their questions. I asked a question that almost stumped them, which made me feel really bad since I didn't want them to be embarrassed. It wasn't that bad anyway.

So if they like me, they'll ask me to do a demo lesson, and then they'll decide whether to offer or not. They said they want the new teacher to start THIS school year - to help with next year's curriculum and to get acquainted with the kids and staff.

I don't know if they'll automatically enroll my daughters if I teach there. It's a parent participation school, and so is the one my kids attend, so I don't think I can manage to have them in a different school than mine. Details...

    Teachershelly-

Sounds promising! I think things are really going to start happening this month.

When will you know if you are doing the demo?

Shelly, that's great news! What question did they get stumped on? I've never heard of a parent participation school, but it sounds like it would be a great situation. Good luck!

I am feeling good lately. I did find out that my dream school and dream grade still has a position available. I haven't seen anyone else come in to interview for it in over a week. I have already interviewed for it and it went well but was weird since I work there nearly everyday as a sub. This school also had a kinder position open which was definitely my second choice. I have since found out that the kinder position was filled by an in district transfer.

Starting on Tuesday the 15th, the school is allowed to hire outside the district, this includes me because I am only a sub. I pray to God I get that first grade dream job.

I also should hear from the principal at another school on the 15th since she said she would call then.

Also, a weird thing happened today. A teacher at my dream school gave me several things she used when she taught 1st. She just dropped them off in the room in which I was working and said something like "here you will need these" and I said something like "I wish" and she just laughed.

Wow, Lemon, that sounds really good! I'll be sending good vibes your way.

I'm kind of in that mode where its neither good nor bad. I'm SOOOO happy for those that are getting interviews. It just stinks that my district is sitting on their hands and not calling. A principal did say that he was going to start in a couple of weeks which should be this week or next. I plan on taking a mini packet by another school on Wednesday. I have my cover letter, resume, certification, 2 letters of recommendation, and a couple of lessons in a report cover.

So funny Briana! Maybe you can come down here and knock some sense in to them.

I am hoping that teacher knows something that I don't but chances are she was just being nice and knows I want 1st or 2nd somewhere!

I appreciate the good vibes ya'll!!!

:2up:That sounds really hopeful. I have a good feeling about your DS. I taught first grade for 7 yrs., totally fell in love with that grade. That is my first choice grade, then 2nd or KG.

Thanks JW an cMcD. When I said kinder was my second choice, I meant that of kinder and first, kinder would be my second. I think if I had a choice of kinder through 4th it might be my last. First grade is my first choice no matter what grades I include. I absolutely love it. I am keeping my fingers crossed. If I don't get a job there it isn't the end of the world but if I don't get a job at all I will be big time bummed.

I just found out I wasn't called for the interviews being held by my dream district. I did both rounds of student teaching there, have 6 glowing letters of recommendation (even from the principal), and my application pack was stellar (thanks to input from y'all).

I am so bummed. I've been crying and fretting and trying to ease these ugly feelings in my stomach all day.

Looks like I might be subbing all year again next year.... somehwhat good thing in all of this is I will have a long term sub job set up if I don't get hired from another district.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

STG, I saw that a couple of days ago in one thread then I ran across it again in an older one I was catching up on! Well, at least we have things straightened out now. I also teach biology, but my true love is oceanography (hence my fish avatar). And you certainly won't find me applying for any 5th grade positions! I did a few weeks practicum with 6th graders and I felt like--pardon the pun--a fish out of water! And where on earth did you find that jaw-dropping smiley???

Eddie, that's awful! :sorry: I know how it feels to not get that dream job even when everything looks like it should be lining up just right... Just keep in mind that it is still early; you don't have to resign to a year of subbing quite yet. You already know there are lots of people here on this forum who are great at offering moral support, so feel free to come vent with us any time. I'm sending positive thoughts your way!

Eddie, I am so sorry. I was in a similar situation last year. I think I know how you feel. Mine was at one particular school where I really thought I would get hired. I was mad and I was sort of emabarrassed. Part of me wanted to never step foot in the school again. One thing kept me going: I believe everything happens for a reason.

Now this year, I got the long term subbing that apparently was the thing that kept me from getting the job. We will see what will happen this year.

I don't think it is over for you. Have you tried other districts? How did you find out you weren't asked to interview?

Keep your chin up. I know it sucks but you'll get through it and that dream job is still out there. :hugs:

A new position opened in my DD. I already applied to this school for another position and dropped off a resume packet, but they hired from within. Now I have to email this principle to let her know I would also be interested in this position. Everytime a position opens up I get sooooo excited, but so far not a single bite. I hope something happens soon. This is killing me.

Eddie, I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't get an interview with the district I student taught at either and it was devasting! Neither did my friend that I thought would get a job immediately. This just means that there is something bigger and better out there for you.

I think one of the reasons the first 4th grade position was taken down was because an in district transfer filled it. I'm still hoping for a couple of interviews in the next week. It sure would be nice to go to my uncle's wedding and be able to tell them that I have a job next year.

... something bigger and better out there for you...

That's what I am focusing on. Putting in my application for the neighboring district today! Onward and upward (putting on my game face in an effort to raise my own spirits).

Thanks for the cyber hugs and positive thoughts!

April 19th. If the principal at the middle school was telling me the truth, then he should start interviewing this week or next. I know I've said that before, but it really keeps me going.

Have you ever interviewed with the STG?

The first 4th grade position was at a different school in the same district, and was taken down about 2 weeks after posting. This is a 4th grade position at a different school, same district (that I've subbed at regularly)...

    No, I interview them ;)

Well, I don't know if this is good or bad, but I had a voicemail today from a middle school who would like to interview me tomorrow, Thursday, or Friday. It's good that it's another job prospect, but it's not the grade level I want! Actually I don't know what grade level it is, other than middle school. The only one I would probably consider would be 7th grade because it is life science, though I like earth science too. I suppose I'll give her a call tomorrow and get the details.

I haven't honestly given any thought to middle school in my job hunt. Perhaps I should.

Briana, I wouldn't turn any prospect away. I would call, ask what grade the position is for. Go ahead and make an appt for an interview. Who doesn't need the interview practice?
