I've decided to do a little experiment. I am going to applying for a district that is way at the bottom of my list but supposively they need teachers badly. Let's see if anything bites. I'm just questioning where all these applications & resumes go. I keep hearing how they need teachers in my area yet no calls or e-mails.

Same here!! I guess in Colorado people are saying that "it's still early" but other people that I've talked to say that April-May is when the ball gets rolling...I've applied to so many districts and schools within those districts, only a few interviews, no follow up calls, emails or additional interviews :(

STG, I probably miss the background info but are you moving on or wanting to switch districts/schools?

My DD posted two positions today. However, they say that school is to be determined. I plan on mailing a packet to the human resources department.

My job fair was a week ago today. I hope to hear about some positions within the next week or so.

    Fingers crossed for everyone else!

Last year I taught in a neighboring district not where I live. I resigned b/c I was expecting in early Sept and wanted to take some time off to spend with baby. We lost her at 23 weeks (end of May) so I got into the job hunting late last year. I had two interviews in my DD (where I live) but was the second choice of both of those interviews. I'm hoping to get a job in this district b/c my daughter will be starting school next year here.

Do they say the grade or subject? Sometimes I see that where it says Elementary Teacher and then in the description it say TBD. I always took it to mean that they know they are going to need elementary teacher but they don't know where yet. Do you think it could mean something else?

    I got it!

Lemon-two of the districts around me have posted Elementary Teachers-Various campuses. I'm assuming this is a formality in that they think they'll need those teachers but aren't sure exactly what grade/school it'll be for.

Well, I am sending out follow-ups to the two of the three postings still available. I could use some good vibes that all this work is going to pay off soon.

GOOD:Two more postings in DD just posted for a school I interviewed at this past summer. The principal said I was their second choice as they went with someone with more middle school experience. I just sent an email off!

I feel the same way. I applied to several counties, I have a job fair next Monday in another part of the state. They will be hiring that day so what if I get a contract that day??? The county I really want to work in, is very difficult to get in (I've heard).

andrea-many districts will allow you to "sleep on it" so to speak. If you let them know that you need to discuss it with your family, yada yada yada, they'll understand. Good luck!

Illinois people! What's up? (South Siieeeede!)

I suggest the behemoth job fairs. I found this forum too late, but for future reference, they take place in March, and the most active one is at Illinois State University. It's a two hour drive and people offer contracts ON THE SPOT. I had to fend them off to keep people from monopolizing my time.

The bad news - most of them are out of state. No offense to some people here from the regions, but there were a few states that were very very very desperate. Last year, Georgia was very aggressive, along with NC, FL, and CA. I went with CA since Chicago looked ridiculously competitive and not worth the fight.

I don't regret my decision, though. Getting the first year of experience is a million times better than just toying with the private sector, especially when you're fresh out of school and in danger of "going stale." However, most of these places are smaller towns and difficult for me to live in. I'm moving to the Bay Area now though, and have this year to thank for it, I believe.

I'm looking this year and for next (our school year runs Jan - Nov). I have a job this year (private tutoring) but I'd love to be teaching next year. So, am starting the job search early to 'practise' but if I get a job now then its a BONUS!

Have had 2 interviews so far in pre-schools. They went OK-ish I guess. I've also been sending out my CV's to all the schools in the area regardless of they have positions available or not and have had 2 responses of 'Nothing available' but I guess thats OK too and at least I am trying :)

    I hate job searching!!!!!

I'm starting to get discouraged right now. I'm hoping next week will bring interviews with it being the first full week in May. *FINGERS CROSSED* Everyday I check my cell phone to see if I got a voicemail for an interview. In the past week I've applied for over 25 positions.

Everything is happening so fast right now. Bf has to tell his work when and where he wants to transfer this week. It stinks because I don't know where and when I'll get a job offer. Then it dawns on me. Will I even get a teaching offer? Then what?

I'm crossing my fingers for those of you who are still waiting for "the call" as well!

cMcD-again, I'm in the same position. Last week finished up all the state testing so I'm hoping that principals will start calling for interviews this week.

    Hey guys-

I haven't checked in here for a while because I've been feeling so depressed about no calls.

But one district just had me fax them more stuff and they called at least one reference! I did a preliminary interview a few months ago. The next would be with a school principal.

Any job would be fantastic here in Southern Calif. in the land of budget cuts.

    Good luck everyone.

    Best wishes to all
