The P called back today! He offered me a position! My first in-service day is Friday!!! The students start school the following Thursday! I am so excited!!!!

Oh, I'm so happy for you! I was just formulating a response to post on your other thread when I saw this!

Congrats! As I figured, you were golden, but they had to give the other guy the second interview. I know this is a weight off of your mind.

It's high school math. Supposedly, it's all honors level upper math... It's got me stoked and nervous! For the last 3 years, it's been 6th - 8th grade math at a middle school. Now, a whole different set of content with an older group of students!

Since I was going to the school today to meet the P by 8:00, I wanted to see how long this commute would feel on a regular day. I left my house at 5:10, stopped by McDonald's to get breakfast, and headed to school. Sunny skies and clear roads.... About 10 miles away, I got stuck behind two trucks on a one-lane road. I got to school by 6:30. So an hour and 20 minutes on a good weather day. I'm sitting in a nearby gas station waiting for 8:00.

What time would you want to get there on a regular day? I would try the commute at a few different times so you know exactly what window to give yourself. I know 10-15 minutes makes all the difference in my husband's commute.

I liked getting to my previous school at least an hour before first bell. That way, I can make last minute lesson plan changes, copies, etc.....

Yay! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. And, you get a few days to wrap your head around the curriculum too. That's great.

It's math that I've done but haven't taught. The pre-calc book here is one that I used during my student teaching days so it's not aligned to common core. I'll have to see how much of it aligns to it. The Algebra I stuff I won't need to review so much but the Geometry needs to be looked at. Especially the constructions and proofs!

How did meeting with the P go? Did you see your room and what is there for you? Sounds like you got your books/curriculum. Good luck!!

Wikipedia is your friend, Pi. I wish I could still send you to Wolfram Mathworld with a clear conscience.

Don't forget to factor in "school traffic". Not sure where you are located but here the roads are much more congested when school is in session.

The meeting went well. After getting a tour and my key, I hauled in my stuff.... I wasn't even officially hired yet but I just wanted to get it all in. The board met 3 hours ago and finally approved me!

This is a great new start for you. Just make sure to check ALL the rules regarding EVERYTHING. Soon enough, you'll have tenure and the right reason to possibly
