If I remember right, I think you have an excellent cover letter (with Calculus included, like mine) and equally excellent qualifications. I like and enjoy interviews. All the best!

Its middle grades math, which is what I really want. The school is 5 minutes from my house. Its an excellent school, Title 1, AYP met past 4 years and past two years its been distinguished, its a "Georgia Dream School". I've checked out their website and they seem to have a lot to offer the students: math club, knowledge tournaments, a lot of sports and activities. Each grade level is divided into 3 teams with one team leader so it looks as if there is a great support system there. I spoke to the principal on the phone and he seemed very nice as well as the other 2 people I have interacted with at the school. Its just a well known school in my area and I'm excited that I might get to be a part of their learning community!

    No sweat.

    What are you wearing?

And what are you carrying your resume in? (Not that it matters, but even a folder looks more professional than just a bunch of loose papers. Of course, if you have some sort of a portfolio, great.)

I'm wearing slacks, my blue button up collared shirt, and black closed toed heels.

I can put my resume in a folder no problem. Should I have my references also? Should I take anything else? I don't have any lesson plans typed up but I could get one ready. I also have PDF's of my final evaluations from my ct and clinical supervisor. Should I take those?

    Congrats!

I have two interviews as well for middle school math positions. People think I'm crazy for wanting to teach middle school math but you must understand the madness as well! :)

It's later this morning. (But welcome Jessie!)

Math1abee, just make sure that the person they're interviewing is that same person who piqued their interest in that cover letter. It's a conversation, not life or death. Be YOU. Keep your sense of humor, and talk about real kids in a real classroom, not the Stepford kids and the buzzwords you learned all about in education classes.

    Good luck!

I think it went really well. It was just the principal and I and at the beginning of the interview he said he hoped we could have a conversation instead of him just running down the question list and that's what we did! I knew how I wanted to answer every question and they were my unrehearsed answers and I felt really good about them. It was really fun, I was a little nervous but overall very excited and he said I was very enthusiastic. He was impressed that I already knew a lot about standards based instruction which is a plus for me! Its just gotten really big the past 2 years and he wondered how I knew since I hadn't been in the classroom lately.

After I answered all his questions he let me know a lot about the school, how they work there and told me he saw no problem with me working right in and getting along with everyone. He also asked if I was familiar with inclusion, IEP's, etc and I was able to give him a good bit of information on that! When he asked me if I knew what an IEP was I said yes its an Individualized....umm Plan...oh darnit I can't believe I forgot the E and he was like that's the only letter I can remember and then it popped back in my head and I was like Education! I laughed a little. I also told him why I wanted to work there...see reasons listed in previous post...and he was very, very proud of those achievements, as he should be! Lastly, I asked about the class size; get this, they run from 15 students to 24! That is so awesome I was preparing myself for 30+.

At the end of the interview he gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him if I had any questions. Then he gave me the low down on this hiring process....He is interviewing 10 candidates and I was 6! He said the last candidate has their interview next Tuesday then he has to submit his recommendation and then all that fun stuff so I'm guessing I'll here something in 2 weeks?

After that he took me on a tour of the school and from the interactions I saw between he and his students (over 800) he is very dedicated. The students really respect him as well as the staff. They were making jokes and the students were giving him air fist bumps, it was funny. He also is very driven and expects everyone to pull their own weight which I appreciate.

Overall I really hope I get the job. We'll see, it's going to be tough with 9 other candidates...I hope he remembers me

And again, I want to thank everyone for their support and good luck wishes! It really helped me!

Sounds like it went really well!! Be sure to send him a thank you note!! That will remind him of who you are. When you send your note, include something from your interview.
