I have been subbing at a great school in a great district for 5 years but haven't landed a job offer so I started looking elsewhere in April. I applied to over a 100 jobs on Indeed but only heard from a few. A couple of them never got back to me after contacting me for an interview. I finally interviewed with a charter school and passed the round 1 interview. The school seemed great. I was invited to a round 2 interview and received a ton of praise during the interview. I was told they would let me know in a week or 2 if I was selected. Two days later, the assistant principal offered me the job. She had told me earlier that it would be a 1st or 2nd grade position. I accepted it and she said that she would reach out to HR and would be in touch with me soon. It's been over a week and I haven't heard anything. I received 2 interview requests last week that I turned down since I had accepted the offer. Today, my phone rang and it was another interview request. I am torn about whether I should go on this interview or wait to hear back from the 1st school. In previous jobs I've had, I sometimes didn't sign a contract until right before school started. I just don't want to end up without a job.
And if as good or better offer resulted from any of those, I'd accept. Then I would take the best one that came across with actual paper.
Keep interviewing until you sign something. I know someone who was offered a job but before they filled out paperwork the person who resigned wanted their old job back and the offer was rescinded.
I agree. If these schools want to drag their feet and let weeks go by then it's their own fault if someone gets a better job offer and leaves them in the dust.
Agree with the posters above. If you get an interview call, go ahead and do it. You don't have to accept a job offer, if you don't want, but as long as you haven't formally been offered the original job and signed the paperwork it's not a done deal.
Same thing happened to me last year. I had already been offered and informally accepted an offer when another school asked for an interview. I told school 2 that I had an offer elsewhere, but since nothing signed, I'd do the interview. School 1 was dragging their feet with the details and paperwork, and I'd had two interviews and a demo lesson with school 2 in the time it took them to get back to me about when to expect a contract. Long story short, I ended up taking school 2's offer and having one offer on the table allowed me to negotiate a bit on pay (we don't have a salary schedule per se). I ended up working part-time at school 2 for about 2.5k less than if I had stayed on full-time at my prior school.
