    Hello all,
With ST quickly approaching, I thought it would be nice to introduce ourselves and hear what others are getting for their placements. I was recently placed in a third grade classroom. I still haven't contact the classroom teacher because I'm so nervous (and busy) :p but I think I will next week. I don't know why I'm so scared, it's the grade I hoped for!

I've been bookmarking lots of sites and I ordered "Love and Logic" and "Tools for Teaching" to read over the break. I also plan to go shopping for "teacher clothes" over the break, which should be fun and give me something else to worry about LOL.

    Good luck everyone!

Hi, i recently got placed in a 4th grade classroom. It's also the grade that I've always wanted. I'm not as nervous as I could be I suppose. But what unnerves me is that only veteran teachers are supposed to recieve student teachers and yet everyone I ask has never heard of my teacher.... so, I'm waiting till I get the letter from my college telling me exactly who I have. So far I just have the word of a graduate assistant telling me who and where I am. Once I'll have the letter, then I'll contact her. What websites have you been bookmarking?

Well, now that I have passed the final section of the CSET...I can complete my final semester of student teaching. I don't know what my placement will be though. For my first placement in the Spring I was in Kindergarten class, so I suspect that I will be in an upper grade this time around

    good luck!

Good luck to all of you student teachers to be! I will be completing my second semester of student teaching, and the experiences that I have had have been invaluable. I too was pretty nervous, but I feel completely comfortable now.

Here are some ideas that I have done before starting new placements:

*write a hand written letter to your class
*send a picture of you when you were in # grade (What do you think I look like now?)
*create a crossword puzzle about yourselves for children to do at home with their families
*for the younger kids (or older!)-I made a page that had pictures of my favorite things. then covered up the pictures w/construction paper. I used a hole punch to punch holes, over the pictures, and the kids guessed what some of my favorite things were.

Hello all... I just had my last class as a student, and I'm very sad, (but I'm coping). Starting January 3, I will be a student teacher in a 3rd grade class. The kids are wonderful and so is my CT, but I cannot help but feel both nervous and excited as I embark on this new journey. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that feels this way, so I wish everyone the best of luck!

Hello! I am also student teaching in January. I have been placed in a 3/4 split. I am looking forward to this experience - although right now I am very nervous! *Thanks to Pisces Fish for posting all of those links! :)

I am in a 5th grade classroom for third quarter, and then I have a middle school placement (7th and 8th grade Spanish, and 8th grade Algebra) fourth quarter. I'm really excited about everything but the algebra!

I just want to wish you all the best of luck. I did my student teaching in January a few years ago. You all will do wonderful and go in with an open mind! You will learn so much that you can take with you. Network while you are there. I ended up just returning this year to the school that I did my student teaching at. My student teaching principal helped me get a job in the district. She actually did the networking for me!

Your experience will be exhausting, however it will be very rewarding I am sure. Best of luck!

Hi everyone - I just got my student teaching assignment and in my nervous stupor decided it would be wise to seek some advice, so I'm here! :)

I was assigned to high school government - seniors. I'm actually at my old high school with my old history teacher. I graduated almost 8 years ago and my university had problems placing social studies majors. Sifting through the pile of ST applications, my old teacher recognized my name & pulled it out and actually called me to set everything up - if it were not for that, I wouldn't have an assignment now.

I'm lucky in that I've been completing field experience this semester at the same high school, so I just switched over & started observing his classes. Kind of gives me a head start, I guess, seeing as I'll only be doing 1 week of observation & then right into my 11 weeks of student teaching.

I don't really know what to think though. At first, I felt lucky just to get an assignment. But then, I was incredibly disappointed. Government is NOT my forte - I graduated with a bachelors in history & have been waiting years now to be able to teach history. And now I'm not. Plus, seniors intimidate me. I look very young (I'm 25 but have been told that I look about 17 or 18) and between that, spring senioritis & the shakey grasp I have on being a govt. "content expert", I'm terrified things will spiral out of control.

I also don't think I'm going to get the full "experience" of student teaching at my old high school and with a former teacher. He intimidates me. I've never had a problem with teaching in front of other teachers, but the prospect of teaching in front of him makes me incredibly nervous. In the few weeks I've observed him, I've learned that our management & teaching styles are polar opposites.

On the plus side... I've heard rumor that the district MIGHT have an opening for a history teacher at the end of the year. The district is known for only taking teachers that have a "tie" to the district. With the strong ties I already have there, and student teaching with the dept. head, I think it will give me a leg up on the hundreds of other people that will be applying.

Gosh... this message has gotten way too long. Sorry! I look forward to hearing & learning from everyone's experiences in the spring. :)

Hi all! I'm new here, so i'm a little bit behind on this thread!

I, unfortunately, do not have a student teaching placement yet! Most students in my program already have theirs and start on Monday...How very nervewracking this is! I am pretty much beside myself at this point. Anyone have any tips as to how I can prepare?

Hello! I signed up for this forum today, so I'm very behind on this thread..
Anyway, I start student teaching tomorrow! I'm in the middle school teaching English. We have 3 7th grade classes and 3 8th grade classes. Unlike many of you, this is my only block of student teaching. I'm in PA. Although they require 150 hours of observation throughout my previous semesters at college, this last semester is only student teaching. I'm so nervous, but incredibly excited.

    :)

    Hey all!

I've kinda been a lurker around here, but I will be student teaching finally starting on February 5. I have been placed at a middle school and will be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science in a resource room environment (I am an intervention specialist major). Each grade level has their own class period, and there is also one class period that is a 7/8 split but they all will be doing 7th grade level work because they are very low.

I met my cooperating teacher today--she is amazing and I love her and I also loved the building I am in. I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to start there! It's going to be a great experience! :)

Good luck to everyone who is out teaching already or starting soon!

Hello! I start my first placement for ST tomorrow in the first grade. I think my nervousness is finally sinking in because and it gets closer to tomorrow, I feel like I want to be sick. I know I probably shouldnt be so scared, they are only 6 year olds but this whole experience is all new to me. I think I am mainly nervous that I wont succeed as a teacher. I want to make a great first impression and want all the kids to respect me from the beginning. I just hope this week goes well! Any and ALL suggestions would be appreciated in how to get through the first hump.

    Thanks!
    Anna:confused:

I also start tomorrow and know very well the sick feeling you're having :) I almost feel like I'm going to prison! I think it's just the fear of the unknown that scares us all. I met my CT last week though, which helped me calm down a little. One word of caution - try not to make sure the kids like you too much. It sounds harsh, but avoid being their friend, at least for awhile. You are their teacher and they have to lern to respect you or will will not have control over them.

I truly am dreading tomorrw, but I'll do the best to make the most of it.

I'm sure there are literally hundreds of ST all starting tomorrow. Somehow that thought makes it a bit easier

Hi all! My name is Lindsay and I will be student teaching starting Monday the 22nd! I am excited and anxious. At my university we have two placements. One in a suburban setting, and the other urban. I have experienced both so I know what kinds of things to expect. My first placement is in a third grade classroom (suburban). I met my CT and she is wonderful. I am there until the middle of March. From there I move onto the city school where I will be with a fourth grade classroom. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

    Hello!
I just started student teaching today in a 1st grade class. LOVE IT!!!! I'm 'rockin' the "teacher clothes" as well, LOL. Not sure where you shop, but JCPenny has GREAT prices.

I have found this website to be extremely helpful!

    How cute is this....

FOR ALL THE NICE THINGS PEOPLE SAY,
    I'LL ADD ANOTHER LINK TODAY.
AND WHEN THE CHAIN AND FLOOR DO MEET,
(MISS TAYLOR) WILL BRING US A TREAT!

    Good Luck!

    3-15-82 how about you?

I know what you mean about being their teacher and not their friend-but that has got to be one of the hardest concepts! I know I need their respect, but, I am not so tough! I think it would be different if this was actually my own class, but this is someone else's class and I am nervous about stepping in. I understand this teacher is giving me an opportunity to work with her class and I both respect and GREATLY appreciate that.

I searched on this site for ideas on how to line-up quietly.....lots of them! I plan on trying a few tomorrow.
    The first being-
One, two, three, eyes on me
(students repeat) One, two, eyes on you!

    Good Luck to all,:)

My first day went well but was not at ALL what I expected - we had a sub! I have another sub today, too, actually. My CT's son is very sick. Looking forward to Wed so I can get a better feel for what things will "really" be like :)

Good luck on day two everyone!

I did my student teaching last semester and a great way to introduce yourself is to place five things that represent you in a bag and share them with the class. I called it my "Me Bag". I am doing a long term sub at the same school starting in February and I plan to do it with my new 2nd graders. Good luck, everyone! Know that your hard work gets noticed and pays off! :)
