I already posted in the jobs, but I decided to post the official news...I signed my contract yesterday! What started back in April at a job fair ended up in me getting the job! In reality, this position has been five years in the making. I have been a para for 7 years, looking for a teaching position for 5. I gained a lot of experience where I was, and worked with fantastic teachers. I had a great support system. Everyone knew I was looking, and they were behind me 100%. For the first 5 years, I had one interview per year, with an average of 2 job fairs, and no call backs. This year, I kept feeling like it was my year to land the job, and kept telling myself so. I had one interview before school was out in my district, and was turned down. I went back and forth on the phone with one school and finally got an interview. After that, I had 2 other interviews with another district. Eventually, I got my job! With each interview I got less nervous, and I could feel myself gaining confidence. I still wonder what I said that impressed them so much. I'll say one thing, though. I felt a connection with my new boss that I never felt in any other interview. My message to those looking...don't give up! Your time will come! It took five years for me. They weren't always easy, and I did my share of crying and getting depressed. Actually, I had already resigned myself to the fact I would be at my other school for at least another year. I told myself I was going to learn something new. That's what you have to do: keep a positive outlook no matter what your circumstance. My time came. Yours will too!
