...so, how many subbing jobs have you guys gotten so far? My district started Aug 10th. I've literally only worked 1 day, which is not what I was hoping so far, but I guess it's not too shocking. I really hope it picks up...fast! The thing is, I'm picky, I won't do certain types of assignments. I don't do general ed classes, grades K - 8 (which is what my district goes up to). I only do RSP & speech.
Today was the first day of school so I wasn't excepting anything yet. Last year I worked three days in September. I do K-8 general ed so I generally am pretty busy. I've heard that my district has lots of pregnant teachers right now so I'm hoping for a maternity leave later in the year. Hopefully it picks up soon.
I'm hearing friends who sub in my district are getting too many calls to keep up with (one friend got 9 calls one day last week; she told me yesterday!). The first two weeks, nothing, and then it flooded, apparently. Not subbing yet but glad to hear there's work. Sounds like SoCal is getting hit much worse than NorCal. Sorry
I was there today for the first day of school and am booked for tomorrow as well... I've been very lucky to be in a school where they want me as often as they can get me (and maybe even more often than that lol)
I'm well known & have a good rep amongst practically all the SLPs in my large district, so it's just a matter of when they need me, either for single days or long-term. I could have subbed a week already, but I had to update my TB test.
One district its on it's 3rd week and nothing. Another today was the second day and nothing. And my last district it's the third day and finally one assignment.... although it was the Computer Lab( but it's welcomed).
I subbed in one position for 23 days from the start of school and have worked every day since, two week long jobs and the rest one day assignments. We're almost two months into the school year now.
Ahh, it's starting to pick up slowly! So far, I'm subbing every Monday for one of the SLPs till Chirstmas at the least...probably longer. I was told that another SLP will be going on maternity leave, so hopefully I get to fill in there too!
