Okay, getting ahead of myself. I took my wife to the doctor yesterday to check on how the baby's coming along (our number four and second girl, she's due in August). Well, it's a girl.

Got a list of possible names I compiled with my wife. Our first was Anastasiya, second was John (After my late dad), and third was Dmitriy. My wife is a Russian-American Jew, and I find the girl names to be so beautiful and strong sounding. Hell, her name is Svetlana. As for me, I'm just black with an eighth of Cherokee ancestry on my mom's side. What we're thinking so far is either Alina, Irina, Liliya, Maya, Natalya, Tanya, Tatyana, or Yuliya. Our last name is Anderson, so give me some opinions. What sounds best? Of course, we won't know for sure until she's born. My number one is not too thrilled with Tanya, because it sounds too similar to her nickname, Anya.

I really like Irina. It reminds me of the show Alias.

I love Maya and Yuliya (I've had students with these names and they were amazing!)

    Congrats!

Congratulations! May your daughter be born healthy and happy!

From your list, I like Alina and Liliya best. I had a student named Avelina once. If you like strong names, consider Sashura. It's a variant of Aleksandra and means "defender of mankind". Avreya is similar to some of the names you like as well.

My fellow educators, I would like to introduce to you Liliya Irena Anderson, now eleven-days-old. Her siblings are spoiling her senseless.

It is nice to have her safely in your arms. Siblings can be the best distractions in the world, and best future babysitters.

    Best wishes to your family!

My older son is already planning to... "interview" any future boyfriends she'll have.

Thanks. Ever since I met my wife when we were sixteen, I fell in love with Russian names and culture.
