I received a notice of reasonable assurance from one of the districts that I sub for and the pay will be decreasing approximately 6%. Will pay be decreasing for anyone else? My 2nd district pays higher anyway, but I'm curious to see if the same thing will happen there.

I don't think our pay is decreasing, but they have changed one thing which will cut a few days where they used to need a sub. In the past, when the principal was out of an elementary building for the day, a teacher would fill in as principal that day, and therefore a sub was required for that teacher. Now they are going to have a certified staff person that does not require a sub, take over that duty of filling in for the principal. It may be the guidance counselor, for example.

If they did this, I hope I would be wise/strong enough to leave the profession. That would feel like a punch in the face, after all the other slaps in the face over the years.

In my district we pay union dues and are included in the teacher contract, we get $1/day raise per year...so no we will not be getting a pay cut.

A district that is 5 minutes from me cut thier sub pay from 105 to 95 with no warning this year....with out a contract they can do what ever they want.

Woah, not that I know of & I'm in CA too (southern CA)! It better not. My district is doing the Golden Handshake this yr,so a LOT of people have retired, so hopefully that's enough of a cut to not decrease the subs' pay.

I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm worried about what can happen. This year I lost work in one of my districts because they put laid-off teachers on priority. I've only worked there three times all year. I'm afraid that they may drop me, or worse, that the two other districts where I work regularly will adopt a similar process next year.

The pay rate probably isn't a major issue. What will probably happen or is happening already is that school districts won't take any more new applicants into the sub pool when there isn't a lot of work to go around.

If they cut my (sub) pay anymore than it already is, I'll quit. That's ridiculous.
