Obviously no classes, but I was thinking of going in tomorrow morning to finish setting some stuff up. I'll have to call tomorrow to see if it is open, but do you have access to your building on Labor Day?

I'm going in. The school isn't "open" but I have a key to the side entrance so I can get in no problem. I'm just trying to get a head start since I know there will be a long line for the copy machine on Tuesday!

Yeah, I know what you mean about that copy machine...and they usually jam up after not being used all summer. Thankfully my co-teacher took care of the the copying for the 3 classes she is with me, but I still need to do it for the 2 I am alone. I wish I had a key to the building, but unfortunately teachers do not get one.

I have a key, so I can go in whenever. I'm not sure if anyone else will be there or not.

I always go in on Sunday afternoons and get ready for the week. I'm going in tomorrow to clean out file cabinets. I didn't have time to do it before school started.

I have jury duty on Tuesday. I feel like I have a four day weekend.

Ours is open tomorrow, but that's a special case. We had our first access to the building on Friday, so they are opening all day tomorrow to give us another opportunity to get our classrooms ready, should we wish to go in.

    I have a building key.

Not planning to use it tomorrow, but I could.

Ours is not opened. The alarm is set, so even with a key you'd be inviting the cops if you went in.

I can't believe so many schools give teachers keys to access the building whenever they want. I'm not even supposed to be in my building when the admins aren't there.

We have keys, but we can only use them when the school is open or we'd set off the alarm. It won't be open tomorrow, and I wouldn't be going in if it was.

This is exactly how it is in my school. Also, no one in my district goes into either of the two schools on the weekends.

I am at a new school this year and they do not give out building keys to teachers. :(

Don't worry, we don't get building keys either.

At the small districts I've worked in, I've always gotten a key. In large districts, I'd be allowed to check out a key if there wasn't an alarm.

I love being able to go in on weekends or later in the evenings. I don't always do that, but I like having the option.

Nope, similarly to other posters I could technically get in the building but it would set off the alarm

I have a feeling this is the case in my school as well. I've never had the desire, need or inclination to go into school on a weekend or holiday. And I'm sure not starting on my last day of summer vaca.:2cents:

I have a key and a code for the alarm, so my school is accessible 24/7. I've never gone on a holiday though!

Our alarm is set remotely, so it's off from 10-10 on days that we aren't in session. There are ball practices and all kinds of things that go on in our building outside of the school day.

I've had a key for years. Most people do not have one.

I'm the keeper of the keys. I have a key to the front doors, my classroom door, the master key for all inside doors, an elevator key, and the coveted key to the box that houses my thermostat. I used to have a light key and a locker key, but I broke both of them and never got a replacement. I'm going to ask again, though. I don't give up easily.

I don't have the alarm code. I've never asked for it, though. I'm not sure I'd ever need it. I did once set off the alarm leaving the building one night. Some of us had been working LATE doing some district scoring, and it was 12:30 in the morning when I opened the door and set off the alarm.:blush: I almost dropped dead on the spot, and then I had to call the principal at home in the middle of the night.

This would typically be true....but we have a new building that's still having lots of work done on it. I'll be there tomorrow. First day of school is Wednesday!! SO much to get done by then!

Teachers at my site don't have access to the building when custodians aren't on site. Custodians are at school from 6:00am-9:00pm Monday-Friday.

I have a key and can go in at any time. However I can't get into all of the buildings: just the gate for the parking lot and the building my classroom is in.

This is the first year I can get into my school on weekends. It has made a huge difference. I can go in, straighten up, move things around without having to watch the clock.

We have full access 24/7. I'll probably end up there for a little bit today.

So do we. We have keys to the buildings, classrooms and outer offices. I went in Saturday morning and made copies of the school newsletter. Often during the summer, I stop and drop stuff off in my classroom or pick up some book or files that I need to work on something.

Our teachers have keys to the school, our classroom and the teacher work room. I can't imagine not having access outside of school hours! I get so much done when I'm there alone. There were five other teachers at school today when I went.
