I keep receiving emails for job openings, which really surprises me! My district usually doesn't hire this late. Teachers come back on Tuesday.

Last year, back when I was still on the job hunt, I got a ton of interviews during the last few weeks of August.

Our area hires year round. Right now there are over 200 openings in just a few counties around here.

There are just a few openings around here. And most of those openings are hard to fill jobs.

We have about 25 contract positions posted; these will be filled by teachers who are currently working as occasional teachers (subs) in our district.

Nearby district is apparently still short over 100 teachers! They're having another job fair on the 23rd.

I just checked my district website for kicks, there are 1000+ postings when you search for "teacher" but this includes assistants also. We're a huge district, and we haven't started yet, so some of these may be in the process of being filled. The posting automatically closes once it's filled, so these are actual positions that haven't been staffed yet.

We are one teacher short in my department, specifically for our one blended-learning center in Dayton. I'd offer to teach there myself, but the commute is just too far.

There's no real way to tell as most schools don't post online vacancies but I would guess there's at least still around 1,000 vacancies in all the city districts. I've been to a job fair twice last week of August and seen around 300 listings.

My district just posted a couple of positions. School starts in less than 2 weeks.

Yup, not too many, maybe 2 or 3 at the high school. So, it's rare but there are some. Teachers go back next week, students the Wed after Labor Day.

Still almost 300 positions here. Lots of math postings. I've also seen more than a few jobs that were removed in July pop back up.

Nope. We have 3 elementary teachers on lay off.
Jobs are still popping up though. Way more than usual this later in the game.

Those of you posting that have openings and don't list your locations on your profile... Could you post where you are located? It would really help us desperate job seekers out! : )

Well, Virginia has several huge districts that hire late, as well as quite a few tiny rural districts that have trouble filling math and science positions.

Yes, we have some para positions open and a title 1 position at another elementary, which I keep joking that I'm going to apply for. I'd love to teach title! School has already started here, so I bet not as many people are looking.

Actually, I just pulled up my district. My district is only 750ish students. The high school needs to hire 3 teachers- math, ELA, and social studies.

The market isn't nearly as tight for secondary around here though. I probably would have gotten a job straight out of college if I went the secondary route.

Actually yes. The elementary school needs at least 3 but I think more. The intermediate needs 2 at the 4th grade. Middle school I think needs some and high school as well. We need an interventionist at my school.

Yes, Indianapolis is hiring. They had many more resignations during the month of July than they thought they would, and are now left short-handed.

We are done hiring, unless we get some more Title money.
