I had an interview today for a lower el teaching position in a neighboring district. There were quite a few people in before and after me.

I walked out feeling really good about it, but now I'm rethinking it:

    * They laughed at a few jokes I made and a few made comments that I was pleasant to be around etc.

    * They were discussing my portfolio among themselves.

*They asked me my ideal grade (I gave a general answer)

*They were impressed that I did Math Daily 5 and the writing process with kdg and 1st graders.

*I forgot to ask "when will you make a final decision?" my friend is beating me up over it, but is it a big deal?

*The Supt said I was "charming"

*someone I'm doing Summer school with interviewed right before me. I saw her as I walked in. I feel like she was upset I was there...How can I avoid making this more awkward?

Thanks for letting me talk in circles! lol

Well, it's good they laughed and saw you as being pleasant.

I see no problem with a general answer as far as ideal grade.

Impressing them with your math and writing routine is certainly good.

I wouldn't worry about not asking them when a final decision will be made, they certainly aren't going to see it as bad that you didn't ask.

As far as the person you work with at summer school, if you feel uncomfortable about it, just don't bring it up with her. No need to chit chat about it unless she brings it up. And well, it would just be silly for her to be upset that you were there too.

I hope you hear back from them soon :).

Generally, there is an initial screening interview. A second interview usually includes a demo lesson, and a 3rd is a formality (meeting the supt. and discussing salary). From this forum, I've learned that every district does things their own way.
    congrats and good luck!

    Thanks again!

The interview I had yesterday was a panel interview with the superintendent and 6 or 7 others.

I was told Monday would be just me and her and that I didn't need to bring anything in. I'll bring my portfolio in again just in case though.

Can anyone make sense of this for me?

I'm guessing she is going to chat with you about education, your philosophy and goals, and then offer you a contract.

That's been my experience with interviews with the supt.! Good luck!
