I am a first year teacher, but I will be moving to a new school after this year. Is it okay to keep the books I purchased this year with Scholastic bonus points, or should they stay at the school?

I have never thought about it. I kept them, but most of the original orders are my money. I don't think anyone expects you to leave them.

Good question. I always took the books that I got with bonus points since I spent a lot of my own money to buy a lot of the books in the first place. Plus, Scholastic book club is separate from the school. I mean, I put in the work to sign up, to tear out the pages, to distribute the book order forms, to collect the order forms, to collect the money, to send in the forms, to pass out the books, etc, not the school.

I always kept them. If I hadn't done the work of collecting the orders, the books wouldn't have come in in the first place.

I'd say keep 'em. One tip, I keep a book inventory of all books that were in my room when I started, and books that are my own. I update it after every book order. My personal rule is if Scholastic sends me a free book, I "donate" it to my classroom, but if I order them with bonus points, I add it to my own inventory. I figure it's a trade off.

I kept everything that I either bought myself or got from the book orders. I just wrote my name in everything that I put into the class library so when it was time to pack up last year my very helpful 4th graders went through and found everything that had my name in it for me.

I keep them too. I second putting your name in the books that are yours. Makes it very easy to keep them separate when the time comes.

I say by doing all the legwork, you're entitled to those books.

I'll say keep them as well. When I taught I ordered book for the class & what not, but then was laid off after first year... I spent the remaining on books I thought I would like to have!!! Love having those!!! They are kinda like a gift from that class when I look at them I remember those kids!!!

They are yours to keep. I believe the whole point is for you to build up your library - that is why Scholastic gives the points. YOUR library, to take with you wherever you teach.

I say keep them. I do the orders for my center, and it is very time consuming. I also have to do most of it on my own time. We (I) do 5 different catalogues approximately every other month, and before holidays. After 5 years, I've decided to reward myself. If a freebie is a duplicate of one we have, I keep it unless the old one is in bad repair. If there is a book I want that is reasonable, then I get it with bonus points. Last month it was a whopping 50 points!

The only things you need to leave behind are classroom supplies purchased with school money. Everything else is yours =)

I agree - they are yours.

I labeled books with my name. I also places a colored dot sticker on the spine of the book, in case I had to pull my belongings for a "speedy get away." ;)

My team teacher and I split the books up, b4 I left the school we were teaching at. We bugged the parents to order, and it took a lot of talking and energy:lol:, so we earned them.:D
I have my name written, with BLACK sharpie, on the front covers of all my books that I have @ my present school.

This is what my 4th graders will be doing in June. I'm keeping all of my bonus point books. I did all of the work to get them, so they are mine!

I'd keep them. Yes, the free books came with points from your class orders, or the bonus book. However, if you are the one doing the work to get the order in why not keep the books.

I agree with the others, the books are yours to keep. To keep my personal books seperate from the school's, I used some address labels that I ordred from VistaPrint (there are a ton of threads on here about them). As the book order comes in, I just stick the labels in and that way it's easy to sort them later.
