Like most places across the country, there are no job openings. I am looking to apply to some charter schools in the fall. Should I start applying this (ridiculously) early, or wait awhile, until maybe March or April? And if I don't hear back by April or May, follow up with a new application, or should I inquire about my old one?
In my district they started interviewing in Feb. They will make the decision by March 20th. My previous district I was hired in April.
I would have everything prepared this early. How does hiring usually work in your area? If some schools begin hiring in Feb, I would send out my information now. However, if most schools do not even begin considering until Apr, I would wait a bit longer.
Notices of intent not to rehire go out March 15th in California. I doubt many districts would do any hiring before then. I would call the district and ask when they suggest.
That's a good point. Notices to not rehire went out here last week. I know several teachers that are not going to be renewed.
When I was applying, I had all of my materials ready to go and then hit the ground running in March. There were plenty of districts that did not call for interviews until May.
In may district, they are asking teachers who intend to retire to notify them by March 1. I'm sure they will be interviewing (if they hire any replacements) in April.
I think it really depends on where you are & when the area you are interested in starts the interview process. My school probably won't start looking until May.
I think it depends on how diligent you anticipate being in checking in with the district. I don't think it would hurt to send your materials now or in the next few weeks and then follow up when you start to see openings or when you know that notices of non-renewal have been sent out.
