Ok we are all friends here right? Yesterday was my last day teaching at the school where I was nr'd.

I made a friendship and I put this lightly with a teacher who was kinda used like me "to fill the spot at the last minute" Neither of us got any help and I helped her out alot by getting her things that our dept head or admin should have supported us newbies with..

Ok so we always talk about whos hiring and two days ago she mentioned a district is hiring but only advertised on their site and not with the rest of the jobs in the region. Now I feel like a jerk because I have applied every where I can and went ahead an applied there because that would probably be the best op for my family. We only talked in school and are not exclusive friends so she wouldnt know I applied unless I emailed her and told her. Am I a bad colleague? We all have to eat..

I don't think that's backstabbing whatsoever! Maybe I don't exactly understand the situation, but from the situation you described, all she did was tell you that a district is hiring, but they only advertised from their website. What happens if you had visited that website previously at your own will?

I forgot to mention she interviewed for it too... But they are still hiring.

It was her fault for telling you about it! Haha. Honestly, if she didn't want you to know about it, I don't think she would have mentioned it! I think you're golden. No worries.

I interviewed a few weeks ago and didn't tell anyone about a possible job opening there! I don't feel bad about it at all. I really need a job and, while I won't lie, I'm not going to divulge the one opening so I will have a better chance at getting the position.
    Hope that made sense! :)

If she told you about it, I don't think that it's backstabbing at all. You have to apply to every position that you know about that you are qualified for and where you are willing to work to give yourself the best chance at employment for next year. Good luck!

Concentrate on yourself and stop worrying about others. YOU have to watch out for NUMBER 1. Others should understand that. IF THEY DON'T, THEN it's too bad.
Most of the things we worry about will never happen.
It drains our energy and what waste of time!

If she had mentioned she'd met a guy on Match.Com and you tracked down his profile and seduced him, THAT would be backstabbing. This is two people trying to find work.

    You are absolutely right!

If she didn't want you to know, she wouldn't have shared the info.

Besides, I'm assuming that everyone who is searching is hitting each and every local site. Therefore you would have found it anyway, right??

If I'm wrong, then you've learned your lesson: google a list of every local public, private and religious school and make sure you haven't missed any other openings.

You did nothing wrong. If you applied for the job it does not mean she can not still get one there. It still will depend on the interview process and you have nothing to say about who would be hired. Perhaps you might both get a job there.

You're fine. In a job hunt, you can't call "dibs" on an entire school district!! :)

Let's be honest...jobs are hard to come by in our field. Every man for himself. Good Luck, BTW.
