Hello everyone, I realized that in PA I needed to get my masters degree in order to get my level 2 certificate. First off, I have no interest in going back to school. My decision to do this was purely because I wanted the slight pay increase and that I HAVE to get it anyway. I found a program that does cohort classes right where I teach. Its a respectable school (Cabrini College). I enrolled in just a Masters of Education program. Its very convenient and I will be finished the degree in August 2012. Well, the other day my Vice Principal pretty much yelled at me for doing that. She said "Why would you just get a Masters of Education when you have an undergraduate degree in Elementary and you are already certified? You need to make yourself more marketable." Honestly, I didnt want to tell her the truth but I would have liked to say "You're lucky Im going back as it is, let alone for something else." I have no interest in Reading Specialist and while Special Education would be helpful in my regular education classroom, my school is very quick to move those with that degree to the Special Education classrooms. I do not want to do that. I am perfectly happy in my classroom with my 17 regular ed students and my 8 with special needs. I am one of the best teachers when it comes to differentiation (I've been told) and I am happy. The most I would want to do is take the certification test for Middle School Science and teach that later in life. So my question to all of you. Do you think it is "stupid" to only get my masters in education without a focus?
