We aren't out until the 27th, and I'm feeing very lonely! All the districts in our area are out, and I can't even look at teaching blogs anymore - EVERYONE is already out! The worst part is, our original last day of school was June 12 (Thursday..), but due to construction delays on our new building it was pushed back two weeks and a day. All of us at my school (teachers and students alike!) are going crazy with this never ending school year! It's so hard to keep going to school when ALL the schools and districts around us are already out!
Last day for kids in the 25th, last day for teachers is the 26th. I have Friday the 27th off, then a weekend, two days of mandatory PD, and then my summer contract for ESY starts the 2nd. I have exactly two "school days" off between now and August 4. It's hard, but eh.
ACK, that's so much time with no breaks! When do you go back in the fall? I hope you at least get some break in August!
Teachers report back on August 25. I usually go in the week before to get my room set up, so I'll get two full weeks off. I'm turning in my school laptop for those two weeks so that I'm not tempted to work.
School is finished for us, but I know quite a few teachers at my school put in for summer grants to work. I'll be in next week (M to F) to work on my mine- it will be nice to have no distractions from being able to work on curriculum.
We have 2 more weeks...Well, a week and a half really. The 25th is the last day for kids and 26th is the last day for teachers.
June 20th.....we have ONE more week! Our last day is an early dismissal at 1pm We were suppose to be out the 12th but we had a lot of snow days!
I'll keep you company--our kids are finished at 11:30 on the 26th, then we are done early afternoon on the 27th. This is our typical schedule; the students start back the Tuesday after Labour Day.
June 23rd is it for us. I will miss this group a lot, especially since I've heard quite a few horror stories about next year's kids. I'm looking forward to all the books I'm planning on reading this summer, though.
Next Wednesday is my last day of summer school. We had to teach a mandatory 3 days of summer school. Not bad really.
We just got out yesterday. All of the other districts around here were off by memorial day. It was hard! My teacher friends from other schools kept asking me to do things during the day and I had to keep reminding them that I was still in school! Other than the one PD day I have to go to, I have 3 weeks until summer school starts, and then when summer school is over I'll have four days until the regular year starts for teachers. Summer school is half days though, so I'm still considering it a break!
It's nice to know I am not the only one! I always forget about snow days, since we will never have them here! I used to have one or two a year in elementary (different part of CA than SoCal, obviously!), but as a student I never really thought about them being tacked on to the end of the year, although I know they were.
Are you doing summer school for special ed? That's all that exists here. I'm always surprised to read about people doing summer school in other states. My new school starts August 5, and I have training starting July 30, so I am looking at a short summer as well! But it's ok, I guess I'll take what I can get!
We got out May 23, but we start in mid-August. Some of the teachers go back July 28. We would have been out a little bit earlier this year, but we had a lot of snow days. Summer school is going on right now until the end of June.
I'm done. We had 8 snow days, but only had to make up 1. (The state forgave some time.) We were out on Monday (the 9th) and were supposed to be out the 6th. Some of the districts had upwards of 15 snow days. My home town goes until the 20th. They had to add a whole week PLUS cancel some PD says.
No, it's a regular ed program, title 1 funded. We only have sped- specific summer school (ESY) for kids with severe disabilities, so none of my students qualify. Many of them will be in the regular ed program, but I'll be teaching in a regular classroom. They don't get sped services as part of the summer program. I'm in K...not my first choice, but the money is REALLY good. I'll make more than I do in a regular month of teaching working only 20 hours per week, and there will be no meetings, paperwork, committees, etc. to deal with. Plus it's kids going into 1st, so I just keep telling myself it's really 1st grade haha.
We are an 11 month school year. So we go until the last Friday in June. I report back Aug. 4th, with kids Aug. 12th. Debating about teaching summer school. It's only 3 weeks, 3 days for 1/2 days.
Friday is our last day as it s for most districts near me because of snow days...some are going a few days after that in fact!
I'm done on the 27th and my students are done on the 26th @ 12 pm. We booked the pool for the morning so I will probably only be with my students for about 1 hour on their last day.
We'll have a spirit assembly the last morning--we try to make that last for a nice, long time. Then, we'll be doing some last minute cleaning up in the classroom, making sure lockers are empty and saying our good-byes for the summer! It will be here before we know it!
Wow, that sounds like a great opportunity then!! Yes, it's really first! (Although beginning of the year first is rather shocking after end of the year first graders LOL...) Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!! 12:25 for us, and then I'm headed to Disneyland!! I remembered you had the same last day as we do, so I thought I might see you on here!
My last day is this Friday. I have 3 full days for exams, and then half days (with 12:00 dismissal) on Thursday and Friday.
One more week. Early dismissal on Friday. Then Tuesday is our last work day. The following Thursday and Friday I have PD through Apple, and then I'm relaxing until my wife goes for surgery on July 14th.
We were supposed to have teacher work days next week after this week (which is the last week with students), but our admin sent out an email thanking us and telling us we could just take off those days. It was a nice surprise.
I'm in Texas and my school districts last day was May 28 for students and May 29th for Teachers. Teachers report back on August 18th and the first day of school for students is August 25.
There are some districts in OC that are still in too, I think, but most of them are out this week. BUT LAUSD has been out for awhile, so since our kids have siblings/cousins/friends in LAUSD, they are VERY antsy!!
Wow, that's nice! I'm in TX too but we finished on the June 6 and report back on August 14. I will be working one hour today for training and one day next week for testing.
