I hate to brag, but I am! :D

-I have a wonderful group of students!!! I was given a handful of very low SPED students with behavior problems, and they are all doing very well! I also have only 20 students in my class. They are overall very respectful, and SO excited about learning. The littlest things motivate them.
-I feel like I am a much better 2nd grade teacher than I was last year. It's my 5th year teaching, and I feel like I am finally understanding my "teaching personality." After a year of feeling so unsure of myself and my career choice, I am really excited!
-I am right where I need to be with the curriculum. Last year I was ALWAYS behind, so it's a good feeling.
-I am collaborating with our technology and literacy specialists on some fun projects this year. I am excited to see how my students will benefit from the new things I will be trying.
-I told myself I was going to avoid the negativity this year. I am, and it's working. My own attitude has changed immensely.

I have never been so happy to go to work each day, and I feel relaxed and energized. I used to feel crabby when recess was over, or when I had to pick my class up from specials. No crabby feelings this year! :D

Is anyone else off to a great start?

If you had asked me a few days ago, I would have said I was having a great year; however, the past 2-3 days have not been good. I'm hoping that after the dust settles, it'll go back to being a great year!

I'm on my way to a great year:

    - students are settling in and I am really starting to enjoy them - still practicing those routines and procedures, but it seems to be sinking in
    - I've revamped my math instruction and the kids are into it - things have started really smoothly and I'm excited for how it's going
    - I am finally teaching a grade that I have taught before and I love tweaking and improving

That is great Driving Pigeon. I am so happy for you. I also am having a great year. I have a small class, and they are wonderful students. We got a new principal, and he is really great. I spent some time over the summer creating some units, and some ideas that I got excited about. This class really likes to learn and has been enjoyed some ideas "outside of the box." I also am enjoying teaching the Common Core for the first time. Again, I am glad you are having such a good year.

Yes, I am. I have a great group of kids. I'm playing with changing up my teaching a bit, including videos to instruct and break things up a bit. It's not really a "flip"-- more of a slow rock, but the kids are enjoying it.

My study hall is probably the biggest shock. Even on days when there are close to 300 kids in my cafeteria study hall (with 4 teachers, one of whom is deaf) those kids are absolutely quiet. What a delight!!

So far I'm very, very overwhelmed with the class academically. Not only are they younger than the kids I had last year over half of the class is significantly below grade level.

However, I really, really my students and I've been enjoying getting to know them.

This is my second year full-time and third instructional year (1st was a maternity leave and part time position), and I have to say, it is GREAT. I have wonderful wonderful kids, and I actually feel like I know what I'm doing this year. I don't want to jinx it, but I love it 10x more this year than either of the past two.

This is my first year, and I am amazingly having a wonderful time!

I am being driven crazy just trying to keep up with everything I need to do each day because it's all brand-new, but the staff, the students, and the parents have all been EXTREMELY cooperative and helpful!

The students here are AMAZINGLY driven to learn and so earnest. There are only a few who are making poor choices this year.

I am barely keeping up with what I'm teaching the next day however, but I am steadily and constantly working at it. =]

I love my kids this year! They are a great bunch-and they get along so well with each other. I am actually teaching, and not just disciplining!
Adjusting to the new school...so many things are not in place yet, the custodial staff says they can't clean the whole building, so our wing is filthy. Still waiting on another copier and printer hook ups! But, I keep telling myself, it will get better!

Me too! I am shocked by how well they are doing overall. I have a few turkeys, but they are honestly improving so much and I was sure they were headed for behavior charts.

Me! Even though I have about twice as many students as I did last year, and I'm doing inclusion for the first time....I am so happy. I feel like I can accomplish so much more doing co-teaching. I can really get to those kids who need help and dig deep with them because I know that someone else is in the room managing any misbehavior or misunderstandings. I love love love love it!

Also, I have a great group of kids. Some can be challenging, but I feel more connected to more of them than I did with last year's bunch. I was sick for two days this week and couldn't go to work. When I came back today, every student I saw was so happy and said, "Ms. BumbleB! You're back! We missed you!" It really warmed my heart and reminded me why I teach every day...to make meaningful connections with young people and guide them to success.

Today was a good day, even though I still felt sickly

I'm having a really great year so far as well! I started a new job at a new school, and I am so happy I made the change. I enjoy working with most of the people at the school, I am happy with my schedule, and the students are pretty enjoyable to work with. Some of them are more of a challenge, but it's not super stressful like it was for me in the past. The school supports teachers and students who misbehave. I do bring a lot home each night, so it's more time consuming than my last school, but at least what I'm working on is important.

This is my FIRST year where I don't dread going to work. I actually don't mind waking up in the morning and going. I didn't think I could ever feel happy about going to work. I didn't know what it was like. I hope my feeling doesn't go away!

I'm having a good year so far and it's my first year teaching. I work with every grade except 3rd, so I'm really beginning to see which grades I really enjoy.

Before September, I would have bet large sums of money that the upper elementary grades were my favorite and that 1st grade would be too much of a bore for me. It's been over a month and I can honestly say that I would much rather teach 1st or 2nd grade over 5th or 6th grade. Who knew?

    I LOVE my new P.

When I close my door, I love my class - it's small (15), and although several kids are very low, they are relatively well behaved! For the most part, they listen to reason, and are SOOOO much better than my class last year at following directions.

The crap that goes on outside my classroom, well, that's another story, lol!

I am in a new school, new grade, and teaching new curriculum. I'm too overwhelmed to call it a great year yet, but I am doing a lot of growing professionally, so I think that's great.

    YES!!!!!!!

I've changed from devil children to angel children. And I'm not even joking. I didn't go a day last year without someone trying to cuss me out, steal my stuff, or fight another kid. My class also hated everything. They were the kids you'd give a candy treat too and they'd complain that it wasn't a pizza party. It sucked SO much.

You know what my kids have a "thing" with this year? Dress code. They all want to wear illegal hoodie sweatshirts. Seriously. That's it. Nobody's even come close to rolling their eyes at me or stomping off or throwing furniture. They do their work, and on the rare occasion I need to redirect them, they are remorseful. It's just....pleasant. Work is pleasant. The adults are tons better too. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year. :)
