    Hi all,
I just got back from my first day setting up the classroom. UGH! I am frustrated. We had our carpet taken out and tile put in because the rugs had asbestos under them. GOOD! I am so glad it was taken care of and the tile actually brightens up the room since I'm in the basement below ground level, but... the workers ruined A LOT of my stuff. We were told that everything had to be put on built in counters and that's exactly what i did. As I was putting furniture in places I found many book baskets broken and a book shelf that I had purchased with my own money broken!!!! Things were thrown everywhere and I am just sooo irritated that our rooms were not monitored better. The WORST part was that I found an empty Coors Light can on my shelf! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What if a child had found it and not me. I put a post it on it and left it on my principals desk so that she will see it. I was so disgusted. I mean, fine, you are wrong already to be drinking on the job, in a school but AT LEAST throw it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a lot to do... I spent way too much time helping other teachers arrange their rooms and talking and NOT enough time working in my own room.

Thanks for letting me vent all!

I would be really upset too! Just try to relax and remember you can't change what's already been done. Take a deep breath and think of how you are going to make your room look beautiful for your new batch of students. I hope tomorrow goes better for you :hugs:

How frustrating! One year my school hired people to clean over the summer that were in a halfway house from some juvinille dention center... radios went missing, rolling desk chairs were in the wrong rooms or in the hallways because they were having RACES with them, and there was porn on many of the teacher computers. :/ That was the last year they hired them thank god.

Oh my goodness. Sounds just like our school right now. A few radios are missing too and I had a lot of stuff in my room that belongs to others so I spent some time hauling stuff up the stairs to the teachers they belong to.

Why don't you itemize all that was broken or that disapeared and let the principal know. Nothing much can be done to replace them, (probably), but at least the district might not hire that crew again.

I have a list started. Yah know it wouldn't be AS bad if I hadn't bought the majority of it with my own money. Grrrr...

Last year they used all of the custodians in the district at one school at a time. They thought this would get them cleaned faster. I was doing some work one of the days they were in my building. I heard one of the custodians say, "It's the district's stuff anyway, what's it matter?"
I can relate trayums. That statement isn't true of the majority of the classrooms in my building (and probably in most!). Lots of my stuff was broken last year. This year LOTS of my stuff is crammed into my house for the summer. (it may be cramped on the 2nd floor, but my stuff isn't broken) But it was a pain to lug it home!!!

i had something similar happen to me, only it was over winter break. i came back to find out we had gotten dry erase boards in the place of our chalkboards, which was exciting!

however, i got back to see that they used all of my rules to mix their adhesive, and they dumped out my notes bin on my desk and the bin was missing. i found the bin a month later in the auditorium holding nuts and bolts.

ok, they ruined like 5 bucks worth of stuff, but i was P.O.'d. i could not believe that anyone would come in and take and use stuff...even if it belonged to the school (which it did not), that doesn't give them the right to do that to a room.

heck, this was 3 years ago and i still get mad. lol. luckily, my principal repaid me for the items lost. all 5 bucks worth.

so sorry this happened to you...

That stinks! This happened to me too! Except I went on maternity leave for the year and came back to a MESS! This is the 3rd week I've worked in my room. Several of my personal book sets are missing!:( This is a brand new room and my chairs and furniture (brand new)have crayon scribbles and markers all over them! And to top it all, my cabinets (again, brand new) have playdough crammed in all the keyholes! I fogrot to mention my CD player was broken! I did clean most of this up but it is taking me forever! The worst part is the teacher who was filling in for me just got a job across the hall teaching 4th grade!

It is frustrating! I know how you feel...you are not alone!
