We recently got word that my district will be getting iPads at the fourth grade level next year (yay!). The main reason we are getting them is for keyboarding, but since each student will be issued their own, I'm really hoping to utilize the devices throughout the day. Can anyone share how they use iPads in their classrooms???
I use them for internet searching. I am looking into reading apps right now to find a way that they can read novels on the iPad. Not sure if my district will get Kindle apps.
Strange because they have a million other great uses or because the virtual keyboard is difficult? If its the latter, I should have specified that we are also getting sets if detachable keyboards.
Mostly supplemental and for reward, but there are some great apps out there. Get Educreations to use instead of scrap paper. It's a virtual white board for them to do guided practice type of math problems. My kids also love Meteor Math for basic fact practice. We look up word's on Learner's Dictionary (site) instead of our glossary from time to time. SpellingCity.com will allow them to practice their spelling list or give them a practice test at any time. Possibilities are endless!
That struck me as well. To me, keyboarding is the worst aspect of tablets. To type a whole sentence with a touch screen is death for me.
As a 3rd grade teacher, I use the calendar on it, the notepad (for assignments), educreations (app, it's like a dry erase board), dropbox (for getting them documents), 3rd Grade Friendzy (app), and SpellingCity.com for spelling test. They're also a great incentive for getting work done.
