It is so nice to see so many people that are new to third grade on here! Makes me feel a lot better about my new job being that I don't have any other third grade teachers in my school to turn to! Can't wait for the year to start!

Hi everyone! I have been "lurking" all summer and have already picked up some great ideas. It is time to come out of hiding though, and join the conversation. I have been teaching for 13 years, with the last 7 in 3rd grade. I have dual licensure in general and special education, and have taught 4th and 5th special ed as well as general ed 3rd grade.
In my spare time I love anything outdoors. I live in the mountains outside of Albuquerque, NM and am within easy walking distance of the National Forest, where I take my 2 mutts for long walks every day I can. I am also an avid reader and an adventuresome cook. I have 2 kids of my own, one in high school and one who is trying out his independence in Chicago.
Thanks for all of the helpful hints and ideas!

Hi! I'm Christina. This will be my 7th year teaching. I taught 3rd for three years and then moved to 1st grade (3 years) and now I'm going back to 3rd. I look forward to going back because I've had the chance to see where the kids start out and I think this will help me tremendously with the children who struggle. Talk about a learning experience! I'm also excited because some of my babies from my 1st grade class 2 years ago will be in my class again. I teach in a rural town in western North Carolina. No husband or kids yet, but I do have a boyfriend, 2 dogs, and a cat. I just finished working on my National Boards (I find out in November whether or not I achieved) and have applied to grad school. I hope to get my masters in Library Science.

Wow! You are a busy girl! Best of luck on the National Boards and great job on the grad school!
It's been a while!
I'm Sheryl~~ and am getting ready for my fifth year of teaching Kindergarten. It's been a year and a half since I've been on this site...I missed it! I changed careers in my late 40s and am proof that it's never too late to become who you were meant to be!!
Looking forward to the bright ideas and creative strategies to be found on AtoZ!!
HI! My name is Angela and this will be my 3rd year teaching 3rd. Before that, I taught mostly 5-8, with a year in a 2/3 classroom. I "became" a 3rd grade teacher when I moved to my new school only 4 miles from where I live. What a blessing it has turned out to be. I figured I would teach 3rd for a year or so, and then get to move back to the middle/jr.high students-which I really enjoy. Now, after doing this for 2 years, I have my routine down, and it isn't as bad as I thought. Plus, my 4year old daughter will be in Pre-K at my school and her playground is right below my classroom, AND I will see her on the way to lunch. (Now, if I just got along with the other teachers on the floor life would be peachy) (Don't know why, but there has always been some tension among us-a story for another time). Anyway, in my spare time, I love to read, camp, and do stamping and scrapbooking-though I never find the time for that-. I have received a plethora of great ideas here and know they will continue. Have a great year everyone! :thumb:
Ooooops!! I forgot to check the forum....THIRD GRADE!! Sorry. I've gotta learn all over again where to look when I get on here! But it's nice to meet you all anyway!!

Hi! I'm a brand new grade 3 teacher. I graduated in spring and was hired at the school where I did my student teaching. We start in 5 weeks, and I am getting anxious to get started.
In my spare time I enjoy scrapbooking, frisbee and gardening.

Hi! I'm Kathy. I'm going back to teaching 3rd this year after two years in second. I'm excited to be looping with my kids. I'm just a little worried about our state testing this year.
When I'm not teaching I hang out with my friends a lot, love photography and spending time with my dog, Jack.
I look forward to getting some new ideas to start up the school year again...which by the way is August 24th.
My name is Jack Gopher.
I'm developoing learning materails for grade school.
My focus of interest is spreadsheets, and basic math.

Hi everyone! I am so excited to "meet" all of you as I read about each one! I have been teaching in one capacity or another for 14 years (mostly Secondary subbing and teaching music), however I decided to get my elementary endorsement last year. I taught 4th grade last year as a long term sub from Nov. to June. I was just hired last week as a third grade teacher! I LOVE 3rd grade, but I am so nervous. Right now, I feel completely overwhelmed by what I need to do to get ready and how to do it on a very limited budget until my checks start coming. One thing I am sure of is that I made the right decision to go back to school and I am thrilled that I got a job teaching an amazing age group!
I've been married for 17 years and have three children. My oldest daughter starts HS this year. My younger daughter is in eighth grade, and my son is in 3rd grade at the same school where I teach! I love to read, shop, and enjoy the beaches of Lake Michigan. I am aobut half-way through a Master's degree in Differentiation and hope to finish it over the next couple of years, once I get my feet under me again.

Hi, everyone! I am back in 3rd grade after 6 years in 2nd and one in K, and 10 years at home!! Prior to that I was an educational consultant and before that - I taught 3rd grade! This is like "coming home" for me, I guess. I am in Indiana at a small (450 students) quasi-rural school. We have fantastic support from parents and the community, and a wonderful P.
My own family is evolving - w/ two teenagers (grades 12 and 10) in the house, things are rarely dull, quiet, or peaceful.
I look forward to the give-take of ideas and problem solving on here w/ others teaching 3rd grade. I'll come to you often as I make the transition up a level. Thanks!
