Wish me luck as I interview at a very high quality STEM school in Columbus, OH next Wednesday. I don't really know if I have a chance but am going to go and see! At the very least it is a chance to get some interview experience.

This school is an early college high school that is adding middle school next year. They have some very cool projects going on, they have links with Ohio State University, and also Batelle, one of the leading researchers in the country.

Most of the other teachers have masters degrees etc. I have one thing working in my favor, I am coming from a school that is transitioning to STEM.

I'm assuming they meant Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

the school follows common core standards if that is what you mean. Once students in the high school show mastery on the standards they can go on to earn up to a associates degree before they even graduate high school.

I am applying for the new middle school though, so I am not sure how it will work at that level.

STEM is science technology engineering math. STEM schools focus on these skills and career pathways.

    Columbus City Schools

There are several STEM schools in Columbus City Schools and we all implement the Common Core State Standards, but it was the district I was referring to.

Oh I get you now Sevenplus. It is kind of a part of Columbus City Schools.... the school has students from all of the participating Columbus City Schools districts and they can go to this school for free. It is connected to Ohio State University.

Good luck! I'm curious which school this is - I went to OSU and don't recall them having any ties to local schools (I think they had a volunteer program with some schools near campus/Weinland Park), but you said it was a new school. I did an interview with Columbus City Schools about a week ago. They don't have any open positions in my subject area at the moment, so I thought doing an interview was odd (I imagine they want to screen candidates now so they can make decisions if/when positions open up). They encouraged me to go to the Meet the Principal night on June 3rd anyway.

It's an interesting school concept. It's not a charter school but it's not really part of the city district, either. It's funded differently.

The city district only has jobs available for internal candidates right now. It looks like maybe we'll hire new teachers in some areas in the summer or fall. We actually hired several new teachers this school year. I think the job market may be turning around slightly.

Let's hope so. The job market in and around Columbus has been weaksauce for the past few years.
