Hello All.. I'm trying to be very patient... here's my story (sorry for the novel in advance)... I sent out over 30 resumes to 30 schools in the area I will be moving to after this current school year. There was a job fair (march 10th), and at one of the school booths, I intro'd myself and mentioned that I sent out my resume to 'your' school..the principal DID recognize my name and said that she wanted to get in touch with me, but she was hoping to meet me at the job fair.... we had a great conversation at the fair, and in closing, she mentioned she would get in touch with me soon... march 22nd, i get an email and call that the principal wants to schedule an interview for a teaching position... march 29th awesome conversation interview.. i felt a good vibe.. i also assumed she felt confortable... it was literally an hour 'interview." i also presented to her a small portfolio - it wasn't really much. shortly before ending our interview, i asked her when she would get in touch with me (because that following week, my school and her school would start easter break on april 4th).. she replied by saying next week. later that evening, i sent a short and sweet 'thank you' email and reinterated that im very interested in the primary position. no response... the tuesday before break (april 3rd), i sent another email and gave her my references personal phone numbers just in case she wanted to get in touch with them during our break... again, no response... we all got back from break, april 16th. still nothing...well, i was getting so bugged out, i called at lunch. i was transferred to her school voicemail because she was at a "meeting." once again, i left a message and just mentioned that i wanted to know what the status was on my interview and that i was once again very interested and to call me back at your earliest convenience. still no response... no email or phone call... friday, april 20th.. i was browsing through craigslist... the school has a posting for a elementary/jr. high teacher..... so at lunch, i called the school, the secretary answered, and i informed her that i had an interview with the principal, and i would like to know the status.. yada yada... she mentioned that i'd have to talk to the principal and that she will transfer me to her voicemail.. i mentioned to her that i've tried getting in touch with her via email and left a message once already.. she said, "just put another bug in her ear and hopefully by that, she'll get back to you." and just transferred me... i hung up.. didnt want to leave a message because i wanted to wait this week.. this coming thursday, april 26th marks 1 month of meeting with the principal.... PLEASE ADVISE.. its very hard.. im really trying to be patient!??!?!?
There could be a lot of things keeping the P from getting back to you, but as hard as waiting is, you need to do it for now...you've left messages and emails. Its up to the P to get back to you if they are interested. It stinks, but I'd keep searching...hopefully you'll hear good news, but you can only control the situation so much. Good luck!
I've been here and it stinks! I've heard some people getting jobs after waiting for three months. Here is where my 'gut' is going on this... 1. She is the classic 'absent minded professor' and hasn't got around to it. I'm sure with her family, end of school coming, etc...she is swamped! I had to remind an admin this time of year in 2006 to come and conduct my annual evaluation. Trust me things may be that nuts... We have to remember that what may be a huge, life alternating thing in our minds may just be another piece of 'business' in another person's mind. Sad to say, but true..especially for an admin who has hired lots of folks. 2. Their budget has gone south. They thought they had the money for the position and it might not be there. She doesn't want to break the news to you until she knows what the budget is gonna be. This may not happen until summer. 3. The position was filled internally. A lot of times a teacher will see a posted position and move in to it if allowed by the district. I hope it is option 1
At this point I'd sit tight and wait to hear back from her. In the meantime, why not get more resumes out there? Be proactive and it will help to take your mind off of this position.
As a principal I have to tell you that some school administrators are simply wretched at following up with their potential hires. It's embarrassing. I would never put people in that predicament, but I know some that do. I know you are desperately looking for a job in this area that you will be moving to, but at some point you have to look out for your well being as well. Do you really want to work for an individual who is treating you like that? Even if offered the job I'd be tempted to say no. Best of luck - there are good principals out there. Here's hoping the next one treats you with a bit more respect.
If you need the job, then I would take it...if only for a year. As for admins being absent minded at times...it happens. Personally that's not the way I treat people, but we are all different.
I wouldn't count on this job. I would continue to send out resumes and seek out interviews. Now, this is an extremely busy time in the school year with wrapping up the school year, testing, behavioral issues, etc...so the P may just not have a minute and have forgotten about your email or call. She is probably getting lots of emails and calls from parents requesting special placement for next year for their child.
If it were me, I would assume I didn't get the job and continue applying, interviewing, etc. If you get a call later and it ends up she just forgot or something (which I hate to say, seems unlikely), then that's great, but I wouldn't count on it or slow down my job search any.
Hello everyone.. I basically gave up on that school. Lovely and amazing school, but it was maybe not for me. LUCKILY, I received two emails this past week, I have 2 interviews today! Wish me luck.. and hope all will be at peace within the next few weeks! Enjoy your day... ps.. i wouldn't want to work for someone who's like this!
still waiting.. they said they'd let me know of their decision within two weeks.. patiently waiting...
