Well, I just got a call from a principal I emailed yesterday. He wants to interview me tomorrow morning! I'm so excited, and glad that I got at least one hit off the 8 resumes I sent off yesterday!

Thing is the interview is over an hour away from where I live, and it's at 9 am tomorrow. Knowing the traffic I'm going to have to fight to get there, I'm thinking I might go up tonight.

Well, I'm off to put together a couple of portfolios and pack!

That's a great idea to drive in the night before! Spend a night a hotel, practice questions for a while, then end the night with a relaxing dip in the jacuzzi!!! It is so stressful to drive a long distance just before an interview.

I'm back. Not really sure how it went. I've pretty much given up on trying to guage how these things have gone. I don't think I blew it, by any means. I felt I answered his questions to the best of my ability, I just didn't get the same great vibes from this P as I did from the interviewers from my last interview. Not that that means anything, since I still haven't heard anything back about that one. I'll just have to wait and see.

I do have a question, though. He said he wasn't sure when he'd be making his decision. Could be today, tomorrow, next week, or two weeks from now. He just didn't know. So should I email my thank you, just to be sure he gets in before making a decision? If he were to make a decision tomorrow, there's no way he'd get a thank you I snail-mailed. I prefer hand-written thank yous, but I just want to make sure he gets this before he makes his decision. I also don't know how often he's going to be up at the school. The two positions that are open are the two I interviewed for today, and I think he had interviews lined up all day. There was a sign on the front door that said the school was closed until August 3. Not sure he'd get any mail I send him. Is email the safest way to go at this point?

It's so hard to tell how interviews went! I would probably e-mail and mail the thank you. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I would e-mail--but I'm new to this too.

**Something else in your post is giving me hope--maybe false hope, but I'll take anything right now. The school is closed until Aug. 3rd--maybe things are so quiet right now b/c the P's are enjoying their last 2 wks of a real vacation??

I agree with Jessica - I would do both. Think of it as two ways to remember what a wonderful and brilliant candidate you are for the position!!

Good Luck and keep us posted

tb71, my aunt is a principal here in Texas, and she's on vacation right now. I know even if she had a vacancy come up right now, she would not even think about interviewing for it. She'd leave it for when she gets back at the beginning of August. So yes, a lot of what's going on, I think, is that P's are just relaxing and enjoying a little vacation time before getting back to interviewing.

That's what I'm telling myself anyway. The interview I had today was at a school I applied to on Monday. He was one of five P's I sent my resume to (eight jobs applied to in all). I'm just really really hoping that those other four P's are on vacation right now and will be getting back to me in a week or two, desperately hoping to interview me!

I emailed my thank you, and I heard back from the P within the hour! Unfortunately it wasn't to offer me the job :( Haha! He said he interviewed 4 solid candidates, felt he was finished with the interviewing aspect of things, and now just needs to make a decision, which he hopes to do soon. I was quite surprised to hear back from him at all, and to hear back so quickly... I was pleasantly surprised given all the emails I've sent to P's that have gone unanswered lately.

Since I heard back from him, is there really a need to mail him a thank you? I know the hand-written aspect is always a nice touch, but I don't want to push it. I feel that since he acknowledged my thank you, I should really just leave it at that.

I wouldn't send him a handwritten thank you note since you know that he saw the one you emailed him. I hope you are one of the four solid candidates and the next email or phone call you get is with a job offer! :)

I don't think I would mail a thank you either since you already got a response from him - hopefully a good sign! Good luck!

Since you already got a response and know where he is in the process I probably wouldn't worry about e-mailing him, either. Especially since it sounds like he's going to e making a decision soon!

Zoe, he did not mention if I was one of the four candidates. I've been told something similar before, and they never mention if I'm one of those candidates. So frustrating!

dkjackson--I'm thinking you have to be one of the candidates otherwise I don't think he would have given you the details.

Thanks for the info on P's being on vacation. I'm hoping something comes up for all of still out here waiting.

Well, I got an email this morning. He decided to offer the position to another candidate. I'm a little disappointed, but honestly, after thinking back on the interview, I don't think it would have been a good fit for me. He and I had totally different views on teaching and the classroom environment, and I could forsee a lot of butting heads had I gotten the job. It's probably for the best.

Thanks STG! I know my job is out there, it just gets tough to keep my chin up sometimes, especially facing the fact that I'll have to go back to my old retail job part time if I end up subbing this year. They've already called me this week to see if I'm coming back, and I really wanted to be able to tell them no, but I had to tell them I might be so they wouldn't give away the part time position that's opening up in August.

Opps, sorry, I didn't read the last page.

Let me say from experience, that having a connection with the P is SO important. I had a h*ll year last year, and it was because of terrible leadership. Find a leader you have a connection with.

You're right, rachael, that connection is really important. I felt it was there with the people who interviewed me at the school before this one. Unfortunately I haven't heard anything about that job, and I interviewed there three weeks ago. I called HR today (after calling the school earlier this week and not getting a response), so hopefully I'll hear something good from them next week. I know they're having a crazy time right now because the superintendent of the district and the principal of the school I interviewed at both left within maybe a couple of weeks of each other. Things seem pretty crazy there right now, so hopefully that's what the holdup is. Fingers crossed!

Just found out I didn't get the other job, either. Three interviews, three rejections in one short month. I have a very strong feeling I will be subbing this year. Which may not be so bad, at least I'll be able to show a little more classroom experience on my resume.

SC, I'm in Austin and have no idea what the principals in my area are doing since we're on a hiring freeze (I keep sending my resume to the principal at my old high school anyway!), but my aunt is a principal in the Houston area. And the interview I went on where the school is closed until August 3 was in the Waco area. I'm just all over the place right now trying to find a job! What part of Texas are you in?

dkjackson, I'm in the Longview/Tyler area, and nothing is really opening up right now. Maybe the Ps are all on vacation. My daughter is going away for a day Tuesday, and I'm going to take that time to walk in applications.

Trouble is....where to go? I could go to a couple of districts north (this area isn't posting many openings for my area of certification) or a couple of districts south (this is an area where a LOT of EC people just graduated, including me....but there are more districts). Both are within 30 minutes of my house. I'm just trying to figure out if I should do all of them in one day or do north one day and south another. Mind made up.....south Tuesday and north another day. Nothing has been posted in the north since the 21st.
