Congradts cMcD, it sounds like things went well! I agree that your answer to the weakness question was appropriate.

Your cover letter sounds good as well.

And the vomit story? A great ending to my day...I laughed so hard - "The door! Watch the door!" HA!

    Thanks!

I was freaking out! I swore the passing by semi was going to rip my door off! I forgot to mention that I was yelling "Don't worry! She's pregnant. Just morning sickness!" to the people parked next to us that were staring at us. She's not pregnant though. Still funny.

They have to offer you the job. The story from today is too much. You must have a really great attitude, I would have fallen apart if my day started like that. I need to remember the humor in things. It totally gives a different perspective to a day.:D

Did I mention that before she puked we were lost on the busy Chicago freeways for 30 minutes. And in my confusion I drove through a toll station, skipping out on paying the 30 cent toll charge?

It's at 3:30 PM. Luckily, I'll be in Bloomington, so I can drive up for the interview and then go out and celebrate!

So I guess the time changed on the interview. She told me 3:30 on the voicemail and 4:15 on the e-mail. So I guess it's at 4:15.

Call and confirm. I can't think of anything worse than showing up 45 minutes late for an interview.

I e-mailed and confirmed. I asked if I need to bring any materials so she'll have to e-mail me back. I might try calling again here in a couple minutes.

If you don't hear back, I would assume the earlier time. It would be better to be 45min. early than late.

Great advice, jw. I showed up 30 minutes early for one of my interviews. I actually got in earlier b/c the person that was supposed to interview before me didn't show up.

OK, I called the secretary just to be sure. I left her a voicemail saying "On your voicemail message you said 3:30 and in your e-mail you said 4:15. I just wanted to make sure I have the correct time." She called me back and said she was very sorry for the confusion and that it is at 3:30. So it's definitely at 3:30 PM Friday.

 Thank you! I'm EST. :)

I'm going to finish putting together my teaching portfolio tonight. I haven't written a formal lesson plan since student teaching. Can I just put in a formal lesson plan I did for student teaching just to show that I can write formal lesson plans?

Should I bring resumes to the interview tomorrow?

In every interview I've been in they photocopy my interview and give it to the interview committee.

I'm sure it will be. They should get it right before the interview so that would be a good touch. I would go ahead and bring extra copies of your resume.

Not that I'm thinking too far ahead but...

If I VERBALLY commit to the position I can back out correct?

If they make me sign a statement (ex: "I cMcD, verify that I will teach 6th grade at ________ Middle School for the 2008-2009 school year) I'm locked in. Right?

I don't think so. I think as long as you don't sign the actual contract you can back out.

I'd say just the contract but I think you'd be burning bridges.

ANYWAY..... congrats on the next interview. I too will think thinking of you at 2:30 and living vicariously through you. So don't wear light blue.LOL

I'd say that you are not totally locked unless you sign your name on the contract. I think if they have you sign a promisory thing like what you mentioned, that you can still get out but it would be a bad thing to do. I think you wouldn't be able to work in that district.

Sorry I am not clear. It's been a long day.

My first summer of job searching, I made a verbal commitment for a full year maternity position, but I kept interviewing. A job opened up where I student taught and I was brought in for an interview, but I was honest about the kinder job. I didn't get the job at the student teaching school that summer because the principal said, "As much as we want you, your word is very important. There will be other positions when the time is right."

It sucked! But he was right...and the next summer I got a job at the school anyway :) And it was even better b/c it was 2nd and 3rd grade instead of 1st :D

I 'd love to find out that my devout Turkish Muslim principal was friends with my new Catholic principal...haha

    will never happen

I found out that my school us considered the 'black sheep' of the county.

Thank God I'm going to a private school!

Yes, signature on contract would hold you accountable. Verbally..."Oops...I had a head cold and couldn't understand anything..." haha

    you'lll be fine ;)

Ha! My school district only has five schools (1 HS, 1 MS, 3 Elem).

But would it be bad if I verbally committed and kept interviewing and got a better job offer and took away my commitment?
