You COULD work the distance factor in and tell them you're double-checking the logistics of the possible commute.
I am actually confused by this board meeting announcement. They (HR/Admin?) put a name up for board meeting approval without telling the candidate they are being submitted? You mentioned a previous board meeting you attended where you and another candidate were both in attendance. Did the other person not know they had been selected?
How immediate do you feel the far-away school is in terms of wanting to lock someone down? Could you possibly ask if you could get back to them in a day or two, just saying that you need to check on financials/significant other/whatnot to make sure that the longer commute would work? Or, could you accept but then see if you can sign paperwork later in the week? Tough situation...here's hoping you're offered the closer job, though, either way!
I would say may I have the end of the week to decide, my wife and I need to have a discussion about it? It wouldn't be too far from the truth right?
Yes, when my friend and I both attended the last board meeting, we both didn't know who was getting hired. They call AFTERWARDS! So, if I interview, I wouldn't know until after the board meeting.
I think they're looking for someone really quickly! In fact, both systems lost their math teachers due to transfers and I think both Ps were surprised. One said he heard literally 10 minutes before I walked into the building asking to speak with him!
