    At Porsche dealership...omg...

Yeah...so I had applied there online more than a month ago, and never heard back. They called and want me to interview tomorrow morning.

wtf?! What do I say in the interview...why do I want to be a receptionist for Porsche? Umm...no clue?
Plus they will see that I'm pregnant...can't hide it anymore...

I told bf and he laughed and said he didn't think I would get it...but should go ahead and try...I asked him why, and he said they were looking for a certain type of person...aka...pretty -sigh- That REALLY made me feel good. I hate him :)

Anyway...any tips for tomorrow? I have no idea what to say to these people as to why I want to work there when I have a degree in biology and working on masters...lol

    How incredibly kind of bf.

Why do you want to work there? Because all the economists say that the econmy is turning around, and you think that car sales will soon be on the rise.

Porche has a great reputation, and your research has shown that they're a good company to work for. They're solid, and you anticipate them being there for a long time, so job security looks good.

Don't sell yourself short, and don't let bf do it either. Remember: you've taught. So you're good with people. You're organized. You're capable of prioritizing. You can multitask.

Dress as a professional, pregnant or not. And go in there and GET that job. They've seen your application, and THEY CALLED YOU for the interview, so apparently bf is wrong-- they are considering you.

If they just wanted a "model" they would not have called someone with your resume. Go knock em dead! and then knock bf over!

Be sure to mention your experience at the other dealership and the aspects of that job that you enjoyed and were particularly good at. Definitely mention the positive communication skills you built as a teacher communicating to a wide range of people including students, parents, administrators and coworkers.

    You know...

They called me in for an interview when I got my side job at the grocery store. Honey, after teaching interviews...ANY other interview is a piece of cake. I just had to keep telling myself not to give them the "are you KIDDING?" look.

They asked things like- how do you do when faced with a challenging situation. I talk about how I went back to college in my mid forties so that I could learn to teach autistic 5 year old boys to read...and if I can do that successfully, I promise you I won't be flustered by anything you hand me-and I will see it through to its completion!" The man said, "YOU were the best interviewee I ever had!" (I only wish I could be that calm and assured when I go in for teaching interviews.)

Well... yeah. I TEACH the kids that usually come to you. I would HOPE I was better than them.

Dress as you would expect to see as a receptionist at a Porsche dealership on a day when the company president came to visit.

st-- do you have a blazer of some sort? Or even a nice cardigan? Something that gives that air of authority that a jacket does?

You're going for suit-ish, but maternity. You're not trying to hide the fact that you're pregnant, but to look professional.

I do...but it will look bad. I have no maternity type interview clothes except a maternity button up (white), and black maternity pants. Last interview I kept my black leather jacket on the whole time.

I think the black pants and white shirt will be fine. Can you wear jewelry to add a splash of color? Can you do your nails? Even if you can't pull off the "model" look you could try for polished and professional. That's what I did when I interviewed for my weekend boutique job (which I got!) and I do agree with the previous posters who gave tips on answers to the possible interview questions. It will be a breeze compared with teaching interviews.

Good luck!!!! You have experience in working at a dealership. Carry over your experiences in teaching to the dealership and how you can apply them to that job. I think bf might be jealous that you have an interview for a Porsche dealership while he's stuck at Mazda.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try and run to the motherhood maternity store at the mall and see if they have a nice sweater. The 2nd hand stores in my area are all in bad parts of town...and it's getting dark now :-/

If you don't get anything at Motherhood Maternity, this is a great suggestion. Go basic, and use a scarf or some jewelry to jazz it up a bit.

    Good Luck, st!

Personal tangent: Your post inspired me to look around dealerships here for another receptionist position because I HATE Michaels and I miss the car dealership I worked at. Well, somehow I ended up at my old dealership's website (I was looking to see if they had an oil change coupon because I need one and do want to see some of my guys that I miss). Well, they have a new meet the team page. They have THREE receptionists listed- including the one I trained and was laid off with. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mad. I was told I would get my job back if they rehired receptionists. I feel so betrayed.

It only lasted 10 min max...

She just asked about what I did at Mazda, and if I would be interested in hours. Very odd...
I tried to keep it going a bit by asking her what she liked about working there...that was another 4 min.
Said she would get back to me by end of next week. They have a few more interviews.
Also, I don't think she could tell I was pregnant. It was so short I forgot to take off my jacket. Whoops...

Only part time, but it would be something...

    Thanks for all the support!
