    Unreal!

It was about 7:35 am and I thought it was my dog that woke me since I could hear him shuffling around the bedroom, waiting to be let outside, but I guess it was really my cell phone ringing that woke me. I grabbed it, totally not knowing I was grabbing it because it went off and I saw that I had a missed call and a voicemail that was just left. I woke right up and immediately thought, "Did a school district call?!" I checked the voicemail while still in bed and started squealing with joy because it was indeed a school district calling. Pinch me, I'm still dreaming! Over the past three days, a school district an hour away from me, posted four pre-k teacher openings at four different elementary schools. I sent four cover letters and resumes, of course. The school I'm interviewing at, I sent out the cover letter just yesterday afternoon! The interview is this afternoon at 5 pm.! I'm so excited! Eek! Send some positive vibes my way, please! :)

    Thanks y'all!

katrinkakat, I was teaching pre-k last fall until I was reassigned to third grade due to low enrollment in pre-k and high enrollment in third grade. It was so sad. :( My minor was ECE and I love that age group! Everything is so fast paced.

So, I've been doing some snooping around on the district website this morning to learn more about the district and I found that the school board has been called for a special meeting tonight to address some budget issues and I'm thinking the four open pre-k positions will be filled by that time so the teachers can be approved in the meeting as well. My interview is at 5 and the school board will be meeting at 6:45 so by the time my interview is over, I will have an hour to an hour and a half until I know whether or not I'm being offered the position. I know that 2/4 of the positions have been filled already because the postings closed this morning. I'm sure the district is trying to get in the four new pre-k teachers in by the end of the week (and it's already Thursday today) so they can start sometime next week. Makes my palms sweat just thinking that I could have a job offer by 7 o'clock this evening. I can't help but wonder how many other people they're interviewing and how in depth the interview will be. I'm starting to get anxious...

I hope it works out for you. My grandmother used to say this when we were leaving town, "I've put an angel on your shoulder to guard you", so I'll say the same to you.

    Good Luck.

Thanks again, y'all! suzerich, thanks. :) I'm leaving in about 15 minutes. The school is an hour away, but I want to make sure I have plenty of time to find the school in case I get a little turned around and to have time to be there early. I'll be back to update!

    Here's an update:

I got to the school with plenty of time to spare and sat for about 30 min. waiting for my interview! I was there about 20 min. early, but the interview before mine didn't finish until 10 min. after mine was to start. Seeing the interview before mine go over made me feel like I didn't have a chance...that obviously the person they were interviewing, they knew or liked so much they just kept wanting to talk. Who knows. As I was waiting, someone called the school asking about coming in for an interview, the secretary told her that interviews were already being conducted and were finishing today...from the sound of it, the person on the other end was trying to explain that she had 19 years experience in early childhood...the secretary told her she'd take her name down and pass it on to the principal. I can only imagine that person's thoughts, "I have 19 years experience, why wasn't I called for an interview?!" Anywho, what then boosted my spirits was a staff member in the front office told me good luck as she was leaving. I was sitting there, all worried I get a firing squad type interview. I was relieved to see that it was just the principal and a pre-k teacher. I like more intimate interviews. The interview was really just talking casually about my experience and how I would handle situations. They seemed really concerned in finding someone that would agree to the "conditions." I think they're worried they'll end up getting someone who says they want to teach pre-k, but then wants to run out the door screaming after an hour. They asked specific questions like, "How would you handle the chaotic environment?" I had the opportunity to talk about how I enjoy the fast-paced environment and being with the little ones. I said that I liked a little chaos as long as it's "controlled chaos" and the pre-k teacher couldn't agree more. I think it was at that moment that they both saw I would be a good candidate. I asked about when a decision would be made and the principal said by tomorrow and she'd call either way. She said she understands how it is to be left hanging. She joked, "I still haven't heard from that school district." As I left, another candidate was waiting for her interview. As I walked out, I was like "Bye, ladies!" to the front office staff. Ha ha. I was told that there are six pre-k teachers total and three of them are new teachers. Of course it depends on which direction they want to go - new or experienced and they have plenty of choices. I do feel somewhat positive though because I had them laughing and I formed that connection with the pre-k teacher about the "controlled chaos."

That was all a bunch of rambling. Sorry. I'm tired. Basically, out of the five interviews I've had since late May, this was the one that I felt most like myself and that I formed a personal connection with the interviewers. I feel positive, but I know the competition is fierce.

I got a voicemail at 9:30 am that I didn't get it. Apparently my cell phone can't hold a charge for too long anymore...too bad I don't have a job for money to buy a new one! Ha!
