    Thursday interview (update)

For a dream position (for me). .5 public preschool, 15 min. from my house. Let's hope third time is the charm (I've applied for exactly 3 jobs this year, had interviews for first two that went great--and I was sure I would be hired but wasn't....maybe this will be it!!!)

Thank you. I am just a tad nervous but not bad. I wasn't very nervous on the last two interviews I went on. This is a big deal for me, because somehow I developed bad nerves after being a SAHM and being home for so long, and my first season of interviewing I would feel nearly crippled with anxiety. Now I am more philosophical (not blasé) and the good feedback I got after my other interviews is helping.

It's funny, because after my last interview I thought that if I didn't get it, maybe a position would open up at school x which is closer to my house. I also know the principal and another teacher there. But then I thought, what are the odds...It's a small school so it isn't likely. Lo and behold, school X DOES have an opening and that is where I am going today. So hoping that fate is doing its thing.... :thanks:

Fate may be doing its thing but so does faith! :)

Maybe God wants you in that school and He will place you wherever you'll do best. :)

I can't wait to hear the good news later today... please do keep us posted!

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate all the good thoughts.

Just saw a first grade opening at a school in my area--the principal already has my packet. I know her because our kids are in the same grade and school--sending a new cover letter today! The more irons in the fire, the better, although I am really hoping to find a part-time job for now. I can be happy teaching almost any grade. :thumb: and have experience PreK--4th. I'll report back later!

OK, well, I'm walking away feeling like it wasn't my best interview ever. I mean, it went well. But the last two interviews I had (which were also for preK) I walked away feeling on top of the world and that I had nailed it. Of course I didn't get either job, but was told I was a very close second.

I think the committee today liked my answers, and there were some light moments, which is good. There was one question that I really didn't have a good answer for, though. They asked me about specific grant programs for preK. I explained what I knew, and then the principal rescued me by basically explaining it to me, very nicely, of course. Just hadn't thought to study up on grant programs, none of the other preK committees asked me that question.

I also worry that I should have elaborated more fully on a couple of questions. I don't know, I just don't have that "nailed it" feeling.

The principal told me that he would let me know either way early next week (and I believe him because I know him personally). So at least I will find out either way.

On another note, the principal at the school with the first grade opening emailed me and told me she can guarantee me an interview. Then she asked if I was also certified to do 7/8th grade science!!! I am, but not sure I want to go there, it would be quite a stretch!

Thanks for all the good thoughts. I sent my thanks so all I can do is wait.

Sometimes those interviews that WE don't feel we did well knocked the socks of the committee! :)

If it's meant to be, nothing can stop you from having that job, RB! :)

    Keep us posted, please. :)

Thanks, Ted. I really do appreciate it. Now I just have to let it go. You're right, if it's meant to be, it will be. If it's not a good fit, then I wouldn't want to be there....

I don't see why they would ask a new teacher a question about grants. I guess prek is more reliant on that then k-12(maybe?) but thats not something I would expect a new teacher to know about. I myself don't really know anything about procuring grants for my school/classroom but its something I would certainly look into with the help of my school.

Hope you get the job! (Which ever one you want most. :) )

Thank you. I'm actually not new, I have 9 years experience, but I've never taught preK. And they know that. I agree, it seems an unusual question and one that you'd expect someone who has taught that grade to be familiar with.
