I taught in PBC for a couple of years. The salary is very good compared to other counties, but the cost of living is very high. Case in point: I lived in a different county and commuted.

The other question I would ask is where in PBC? That county is huge. There are some very nice areas and some areas you definitely do not want to live in. Some schools are great and some... well, some are not safe.

I know there's another member on here who currently lives there who could probably give you more info on the actual area, but if you want to, PM me and I'll give you some more detailed info (haha and the inside scope on some of the schools)

I don't know anything about West Palm Beach, but have you tried Hillsborough? That's where I teach and online there seems to be plenty of openings (100+ in elementary last time I looked)

I live in West Palm and used to teach, but in private schools only. My sister has taught in the district for 20 years, though. Someone I worked with in private switched to public; she had a masters in spec ed. She is very happy and said it's the best move she ever made.

Yes, it is relatively expensive here, but there are quite a few good housing deals in the area. As someone said, it really depends on what part of the county the school is in. What school is it?

Newflteach- I have applied and applied for Hillsborough just no responses yet. I am faxing and emailing my resume. There may be openings but theres like 2500 people wanting the same jobs and what are the chances of even getting an interview? I haven't gotten 1 in Pinellas County either. So competitive :-/

I don't live in that part of Fl but I looked up salaries in your area just out of curiosity. Beginning salary where I am is $32,000. So, you will make quite a bit more working down south than up here in the panhandle. Good luck!
