    Hello,

I am interviewing tomorrow for a language arts instructor position at a charter school in Ohio. I am not currently certified but I am more than halfway done with a licensure/MaEd program. I am worried that the school will not consider me since I am not licensed, but why would they call if they were only looking for licensed candidates? Has anyone experienced or heard of charter schools hiring individuals without licenses? :(

In Texas, you do not have to be certified to teach at a private or charter school. But with the surplus of teaching candidates in Texas, I haven't heard of any charters in this area hiring non-certified teachers. Good luck!

First of all, welcome to the forum, neighbor! :welcome: I'm also a charter school teacher here in Ohio.

You may be brought in as a Long Term Substitute, which doesn't require a full-blown certificate, just a bachelors and a little paperwork. OR you may be granted an emergency certificate if you are the most qualified candidate to a full-time position. Charter schools tend to pay less than traditional public schools, so sometimes it's harder for them to find candidates.

Keep us in the loop! There are a ton of old threads about interview questions you might want to check out before your meeting.

Its at a school for alternative learning, the kids there do some computer learning and then have segments of classroom instruction. I am super excited! I am trying to keep the excitement level down though, because this market is sooo competitive. I don't think the position pays too much but I think I will enjoy the work and it is a gateway into teaching!

Sounds similar to Life Skills, if it isn't that precisely. I was very interested in them but didn't get a second interview. You must have been extremely impressive!
