I'm trying to prepare to decorate my classroom and I decided that I will laminate several quotes that will capture the students attention. Does anyone have any favorite quotes that would work well if they were posted in my 9th grade english classroom?
Carpe diem! Seize the day! (Most people pronounce this phrase wrong. They say "kar-pay" but it's really pronounced "kar-peh" with the "eh" sound similar to the sound at the beginning of the word "epic".)
"The only limitations are those you place on yourself and those you allow others to place on you." --Jean Driscoll, 8x wheelchair winner of Boston Marathon, 2x Olympics silver medalist
A 100 foot tall oak tree would only grow 10 feet tall if it thought like a human. ---T Harv Eker Its never too late to be what you might have been. --George elliot

Science is built with facts as a house is with stones--but a collection of facts is no more a science than a heap of stones is a house. -Jules Henri Poincare (1854-1912) I have thousands of quotations in my files. If you want more, just say the word. Also, you might check this thread.
"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door." "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach a man to fish and you feed him for life."
I use these quotes on the first day of school to get the studens thinking. “I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think." - Socrates "What I hear, I forget. What I see, I remember. What I do, I understand." - Confucius “I just try to be the best I can be and hope that is the best ever.” Tiger Woods “To succeed... you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you.” Tony Dorsett “Failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently.” Henry Ford

This inspired a lot of discussion with my basketball crazy grade 8s last year: I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. ~ Michael Jordan
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. I painted this on the front wall in my classroom.
