I totally love any inspiring movie involving a school, teachers/students, etc. I loved Freedom Writers, Coach Carter, Stand and Deliver...and more. Does anyone have any favorite teacher movies?

Also, can anyone think of any with elementary students? I have seen many with high school students, but if I have seen any with younger kids I am blanking on them now. I am always looking for good movies to add to my Netflix que, and I love these type! :)

The Ron Clark Story, which was done for TV starring Matthew Perry, has an elementary school setting.

The classic - To Sir With Love.

Also, I think Sister Act II could be considered inspiring in its own way.

I like Morgan Freeman in Lean on Me

and Edward James Olmos in Stand and Deliver.

    I've done this one. ;)

Though I like Sidney Poitier in To Sir with Love, i really like this scene from Lilies of the Field (the first half of this clip).

    I LOVE The Miracle Worker.

and I LOVE the documentary of Red Hot Ballroom with the ballroom dancing in New york Schools.

    .....

But though I really like Ron Clark and the Essential 55...I did NOT like the Ron Clark Story. I thought it was too AWAY from the point of TEACHING the kids and too MUCH his love story...which wasn't even a real part of his life (one of those "inspired by" moments). Also...though I LIKE Matthew Perry, I thought he STUNK as Ron Clark. He played a more timid, northern-accented version of this southern-drawling powerhouse.

I just finished watching the Freedom Writers. I love to watch stories like this. It gives me hope for the students. It seems that many schools have such a "story" to share.

Dangerous Minds is my all time favorite! However, it is high school, too.

Mr. Holland's Opus. Some sports movies double as teacher movies for me. Remember the Titans is one of those. Also, Glory Road.

    Front of the Class

It's a Hallmark movie about a teacher who has tourette's syndrome. True story and I won't spoil the ending for you...

I really want to see Precious, is that out on DVD yet?
The author of the book came to speak at my school, but I had class that night so I couldn't go see her : (

Teachers: a 1984 comedy-drama Nick Nolte, JoBeth Williams, Ralph Macchio, and Judd Hirsch.
    One of my favorites.

That will be my high school band director when he retires! AND my highschool art teacher! Their legacies will live on. Not to mention my band director looks like the actor that played Mr. Holland(blanking on the actor)

Mr. Holland's Opus just speaks words of music programs and the education I got being a music student! It gives me warm fuzzies!
