I'm putting together a packet for a workshop I have to lead for my grad class. Me and my partner are wanting to include a section of inspirational quotes that might pick you up as a teacher on those really bad days when everything seems to go wrong and you question yourself as a teacher.

Any favs you want to share?! :D

The one in my signature. Plus one that I've seen a lot the past month or so by Albert Einstein: Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.

I have a tagline on my work email, so I rotate through inspiration teacher quotes every few weeks. Here are my favorites:

We cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening our own. ~Ben Sweetland~

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember.
    I do and I understand. ~Chinese Proverb~

I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well. ~Alexander of Macedonia~

I have not heard of the quote by Einstein, but it is great. Its a great illustrator, and really hits the nail on the head. Thanks for sharing.

I decided to rummage through my files to find some quotes. I did not find "inspirational" quotes, but I did find some funny quotes related to teaching. They may not inspire, but they will put a smile on your face after a long day.

If you promise not to believe everything your child says happens at school, I'll promise not to believe everything he says happens at home.
    -Anonymous Teacher

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils."

    — Louis-Hector Berlioz

"Smartness runs in my family. When I went to school I was so smart my teacher was in my class for five years."

    — Gracie Allen

"As long as teachers give tests, there will always be prayer in schools."

    — Unknown

"You know how to tell if the teacher is hung over? Movie Day."

I love the Serenity Prayer; I realize it might not fit under all circumstances:

Lord, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The Courage to change the things I can
And the Wisdom to know the difference.

Acoworker shared this with me today.

What if we had fail-safe schools that treated the failure of a single child as equally tragic as a nuclear meltdown, chemical spill, or an airplane crash?”

“I've come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.” -Haim Ginott

Mine may not necessarily be a teaching one, but it's one of the most unforgettable ones:

"I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it. For I shall not pass this way again."
