We've had temps that have reached nearly 110 degrees all week long. Many schools in my area of CA (including all schools in my district) have been holding indoor recess.

When temperatures soar, does your school have indoor recess?

If I can have a pity party for a moment: once I was finished with after school parking lot duty today, I was drenched in sweat! :(

I can't with this heat anymore! UGH.

We had inside lunch recess and PE on Monday. It'll happen tomorrow, too. Tues-Thurs this week the high was around 102-103ish, so we barely made it, and only because our hottest part of the day is between 4:00 and 5:00. (Not sure if your area is the same way?) At my school, they'll keep them outside if it's below 100.

When I worked in LA, the limit was more like 95. It drove me nuts because we had a lot of inside recess due to heat.

I teach in the desert. We've only had indoor recess due to rain (whaaaat rain in the desert?? The kids lose it ) and high winds. So far nothing due to heat.
I've had afternoon duty all week, so I feel you with the sweat!!

We have 95 deg heat for 9 months of the year with almost 100% humidity. We never have indoor recess and lunch unless it rains. Outdoor duty is horrible.

In this area it is very rare for temps to go above 94 so recess is always outside unless it is raining. However, it is the teacher's choice where to have recess.

We often have 110 degree temps at the beginning and end of the school year, with humidity. We keep the kids outside, and we make sure they have access to water.

I feel you on car duty though! It's miserable until October.

We never have indoor recess because of heat; often, when temps soar, it's not much more comfortable inside.

This is the same for us. I think low 100 is our record high. Naturally though, it's going to be upper 90s for the first couple days of school in the portable. I may melt...

Do you not have AC? We definitely have it. I can't imagine surviving the last two weeks of 100+ days we've had without it.

We were advised earlier this week not to have outdoor PE and consider indoor recess due to the heat but we were forced to stay inside the last 2 days with a dangerous air quality advisory in our area because of all the smoke from the nearby fires (I swear it looks like northern CA is completely on fire).

My school last year did. Free app time on their iPads and GoNoodle were my best friends.

We go by the heat index, and I can't remember the temp off hand, but I want to say if the "feels like" temp is above like 98 that we do indoor recess. There's absolutely no shade on our playgrounds, and kids eventually all go sit on the wall complaining anyways.

On a side note, it's been hot here since school started. My school does 2 recess times/day. Its slightly miserable.

Each day it says my heat index is over 100 with the heat and humidity. Im out there from 9-2 each day. Three weeks of August heat in north Fla so far. It takes a wide brim hat, lots of water and sun screen, This past week it seemed hotter. But just the word September always makes me feel it is getting cooler. Sometimes it is too hot to get down on the basketball court to stretch and exercise. This makes 39 years of it.
