THis novel is on our 8th grade reading list, so I planned to begin reading it with my 8th graders next week. However, another teacher told me that she remembers reading it in 4th grade and said it's too childish for 8th grade. What do you think?

That novel is generally used with much younger readers in our school district. I know that our eighth graders would consider it very babyish. It seems to me that in our district it's used in fourth or fifth grades.

I, personally, wouldn't read it at all. I don't like the messages it sends, but thats just me....

Though, I think it was read to my class when I was in elementary school.
