Inappropriate post? Report, don't respond

I personally think the job you all do is awesome - and underappreciated. I feel like the moderators are very much like my favorite insurance commercial: The moose stand off with the swing set. "Yep. Saw it, covered it."

 

PLEASE NOTE: Posting "@" with the names of individual moderators on inappropriate or spamming posts is not effective, especially if those moderators are offline. Hitting the "Report" button (I've pasted an example below) will flag the post for all moderators, including the site owner. I know I try to check the reported posts every morning before I leave for work (EDT). Other moderators check at different times.

You're one of the privileged few with a report button! I think most of us don't have such a thing. The "report button" is the this decades Bigfoot!

Nope. Tried to post a pic to show you, but only the real "old dogs" have such a button.We have "Edit" and "Reply". That's it.

 

That is REALLY WEIRD and needs to be addressed. I'll try to get in touch with the site owner ASAP.

I have been on the "no report button" list, and during that time I couldn't "see" anyone else's report buttons. Ironically, I had a report button, and somehow lost it. It has been restored and I appreciate that. I don't use it often, but I know it is nice to have when there are questionable posts. TrademarkTer, for those of us with buttons, we see a report button exactly where it should be when you post. Your link, however, seems defective. Wanted you to know it isn't personal, and some of the "old dogs" would probably prefer a better moniker.

 

I have no report button either. Also, I still can’t start a private conversation with any users and I have posted tons of posts.

 

I've launched a poll to try to get a sense of how many members are affected.

 

A gentle but needed reminder. I had to delete three posts in a thread because they either quoted or referenced two different spam accounts. Thankfully, two other forum members alerted the moderators to the spammers so I could handle them. Thank you, good citizens!

Aces, I'm sorry to see this: I thought the site owner had that sorted out. Can you tell me whether you're able to send me a PM? (Click on my nonexistent avatar: somewhere on the resulting popup window you're supposed to see "Start a Conversation".) And - yes or no only, please: no details here - is there a matter that needs moderatorial attention?

 

No I cannot do that either. I've never been able to do either of those things. But no, nothing going on just reporting I apparently don't have the same permissions as everybody else

Michelle, I would bet that you lack the report button simply because you are a relatively new member. Similar to who can't send or receive personal messages - no one knows what is exactly the "formula" for getting those privileges, but when a member is fairly new, there are certain things they can't do or don't have. Please don't take it personally.

 

Approaching the two year mark for me---maybe that's enough time to earn these privileges.......

I know the (lack of a) report button is frustrating. I believe the site owner is aware of this and is working on the situation.

This is your gentle, regular reminder. I check this site several times a day, and if I don't see an uptick in reported posts, my guard is waaaaay down.

 

I don’t have a report button unfortunately so the only way I can is by responding by tagging one of you all :-/
