Guys, it takes everything I have to eat when I get home.

My wife just talked me out of not going to bed at 5:00.

    It's 5:51 now ... I don't know how much longer I can last.

Welcome to the 1st couple weeks of teaching every year!! The excessive heat is not helping the situation either. It does get better.

    Hang in there!!

It's rough every year when school starts, but especially those first few years.

    It WILL improve, I promise!

I agree. Eat well, rest a lot and take Cold Ezze if you think you're starting to get a cold.

I'm on my fourth year of teaching and it's STILL hard for me when I first come back. In fact, as I was driving today on my way home, I kept wanting to close my eyes for "just a minute"

We all have to build our stamina each year.

I've explained teaching as being "on alert" mentally and physically from the time I hit the building doors to the time I'm in my truck on the way home. Even when you do have the opportunity to sit down, there are 20 things you are attending to and 5 things you are doing.

I tend to hit zombie mode during lunch at school, but then recover and go hard until the last bell again.

I've told my husband (pardon the expression): I launch a class and go balls to the wall until the bell, and I do this 7 times a day.

I am so lucky that I love what I do.

It is exhausting. But, you will get used to it.

I went to bed before 8:00 last night. This year seems even more exhausting than usual.

I almost strangled my neighbors who set off their car alarm two hours before I had to get up and then couldn't figure out how to turn it off for ten minutes. This is my first day with the students!

    Maybe you're pregnant.

    :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I'm feeling the exhaustion, too. I had just completely forgotten the pace of the school year and how my house ends up in a shambles because all I want to do is lie on the couch.

God bless you. That just sent me over the edge reading it.

I just do not see how you can do that after school. Wow, you're my new favorite super hero.

Unbeknownst, I'm feeling ya! Between school starting for me and my daughter and all the after school activities she's doing... Oy. This is the first time I've had a chance to just relax in days! I hope you have a restful weekend. :)

I've done this for many years and forget how exhausting the first week is. This week has been both a blur and the longest week of my life! :p I'm getting there early and staying late-it's basically an 11 hour working day and then taking work home to do each night-it wears you down, it really does. At least you have a weekend to catch up (although I'm on my way to go work on my classroom a little bit today).

I am so glad I am not the only one! I usually get home and ask myself "What is the earliest I can go to bed without being rude?" I am scheming all evening to get to sleep!

My daughter's memories of the first few years I taught school are of canned soup and cereal for dinner!

Luckily for me, for the first time I will be the only one home for the first week of school, so I can go to bed any time I wish!

I have not even been able to manage caned soup this week--we have had Sonic 3 times this week. My husband made some comment about being glad that he does not have to get his cholesterol checked until October.

This is year two and I was beat after first week!

Now I am going into Week 5 and I feel back to normal. I still go to bed early but its more 9/10:00 instead of 7/8:00. That first week was a killer I was EXHAUSTED! Dont worry it gets easier!

    The first week,
you start it so full of vigor,
    the the long days,
the 'did I get that done?' or
'could I do it another way better?'
    just wears a person down.
Leaving school after sundown (and it is still summer), coming home to the den/office still turned upside from a educational brainstorm you had the night before.
NO WONDER we can feel rode hard put away wet.

Teaching is not like some other jobs where you have a set out come to your labors.
    Teaching becomes "New" every year.
Farming begins anew but the farmers' crop in not going to back talk them.

I literally said that exact same thing to my boyfriend last week. I am so so tired. The heat doesn't help I'm sure.

We 'only' had PD this past week and it was rough. I was at school until 6, had an hour commute home and hit the gym for an hour two nights with dh. I just upped my membership to three nights which will help with my daily energy but will NOT help with my nightly energy. After getting home from the gym at 8, we have to make dinner and then I have to pack Sprout orders-usually in bed around 11. I have been comatose this weekend-I can't imagine how tired I'm going to be when the kids come this week....

Imagine those who do all that and have children at home as well. It's about finding balance, setting priorities and getting in a routine.

We're all busy- trying to 'do it all'...take care of yourselves everyone! Eat healthy, get your rest. Treat yourselves every now and then.

My first day went well, but it is always draining. I could hardly walk out the door to my car! I was the last one to leave the building. Went home, had pre-cooked chicken wings, fell asleep sitting up on the couch! Like someone had literally hit me over the head. TV on, dog kept grousing at me . . . could not open my eyes! The only thing that eventually got me up to go to bed was that I came home to an empty house, and the painters' ladders all over the place, even the upper deck. Kinda creepy when you are alone for several nights to have ladders leading to your doors and windows all over the place!

Anyway, it was an exhausting day! I'm glad the stamina increases with the days! By the way, I have some wonderful kids this year but they sure talk a lot!!

Thankfully, my wife is incredible and we don't have children (currently).

I'm "allowed" to go to bed at 7:30 now; it's just an hour and a half away :)

My whole body is tired and sore. Ug. It's day three for me and my feet and legs just hurt. I feel like I got hit by a truck. Luckily we only have 2 more days this week, and it's testing both days. Hopefully next week will be a little easier.

Yesterday was bad. I stared at my monitor non-stop for so long (only looking away to dial student phone numbers) that I gave myself a fine case of vertigo by 4pm. I wanted to crawl into bed at 8pm but somehow got an annoying second wind and wound up wired until 1am.
