It is my lunch. I'm in my room. My lights are off. My door is locked and I have a paper covering the little window.

It's been a long day already and I need some time alone away from kids because the students have been on a tear today. They have been loud, obnoxious and didn't bother to do their work. I'm blaming it on Halloween.

Three kids have already knocked on my door. And as I was typing this another kid knocked (I can hear them but I'm going to enjoy my last 10 minutes).

Sorry it's so bad... I think the barometric pressure from the hurricane didn't help (I had such a pressure headache the other day), plus I believe full moon was this week as well... Stack that all up ... Enjoy your last few mins!!!

I do this sometimes too. I really feel like I need it today, but I've promised kids that they can make up their test at lunch today, so I'm going to make the most of my prep.

One of my principals used to do this! I would usually ignore it and just walk in the office anyways...but good try.

Your time is just that. If you choose to be available during your lunch, that is your choice, but you need some recovery time. Hope the afternoon goes more smoothly and the kids aren't bouncing off the walls TOO forcefully.

I often do this during my prep. I simply refuse to be at the beck and call of everyone. I also have told students "I am eating lunch right now, you will have to wait" and they somehow managed to survive.

Good for you! I do this sometimes also - when I just need a break!

I am very "protective" of my little lunch break!

I've done this before during my planning period. When the light is out people don't tend to come in. On the flip side, I've also caught my co-worker twice coming in to help herself to my snacks while I was "out of the room".

I was just telling my coworker that I feel I have no down time during the day. It seems as though I am constantly at the beck and call of students, coworkers and admin during my prep and lunch. I am surprised I am able to get to the bathroom!

It's the same problem for online teaching. I'm supposed to take a half hour for lunch, but I tend to eat at my computer and take calls if I can swallow fast enough before the call hits my voicemail.

I hide every day during lunch in a variety of places. I am not kidding on that. Sometimes I visit the nurse. Other days I visit the OT and then there are the days that I hole up in my office. I enjoy my 30 minutes of silence.

You do what I do every day at lunch.

Lock the door, cover the window to kid-height.

All I do different is sometimes I torment them by turning on loud music, so the kids know I'm in there, but can't see me and can't come in.

I sometimes do the same thing during my lunch and plan; sometimes I just need a moment to breathe.

I also do this on in-school PD days when we have no real PD planned and have "free time" in our classrooms.

@Sarge: I need to do that next time...just to torment them.

I don't know how many of my freshmen came in the next hour asking where I'd gone for lunch.

Yesterday, I left and went to Starbucks during lunch. I needed to escape.
