Sometimes, I honestly don't know. I want to take him back to the hospital for a refund. Like right now, he's in a time out for throwing a wild-eyed fit. He's screaming at the top of his lungs. I'm seriously about ready to go out in the garage and take a breather. I've basically been a single mom for the last month because DH has been working some killer hours, and it's really grating on my nerves.

Don't get me wrong - I love DS with all my heart and I feel so lucky to have him. It's just some days... :|:dizzy:

Are we twins? My 2 year old twins are tiny tornadoes and my husband has been working crazy hours 6-7 days a week! I am about to start reading 1-2-3 Magic.

It's been a long time since I was there, but you will survive. Huge hugs.

You will survive, but I have to say, now that my daughter is 3, I would go back to 2 easily some days! :)

I read your post and almost instantly my 2 year old son went from calm to running through the house like a crazy person!

Bella, you will come out the greyer for it, but you will survive. You may be a bit batty afterward, but you will survive. Question is, will your toddler? :D

Well, mine do just enough cute/funny stuff to keep us all smiling, mostly.

I will forever regret not getting this on video tonight - My son was finished eating and my daughter was not, so I was handing him some things my daughter left on the table and asking him what shape they are. He had a plastic orange and it rolled off the table and he went into hysterics saying "Oh no, my sphere, my sphere!". He is such a dork LOL

It is a good book that some of my families have found very useful.

Thanks for the reassurance, I really appreciate it! :) DS had yet another time out. When he calmed down and his time out was over, he ran over and gave me a big hug and kiss. I joked with DH that men learn the art of sucking up at an early age, lol.

When my kids had those out of control tantrums, I ususally found that a hug was the answer. That, and a series of soft "ssshhh, ssshhh" sounds. I got some funny looks from people who apparently didn't like my approach, but the tantrums ended quickly. Then we were able to get to the root of the problem (which was frequently something else-- being tired or hungry or something.)

Good luck!! You WILL come out of this, I promise!

My daughter turned two in June and is (hopefully!) starting to come out of the phase. I feel like from 18-26 months she was just an absolute terror: constant tantrums, screaming, whining, etc. My best advice is to stay firm and consistent in your expectations (just like with your students, right?!). It may take a awhile for it to kick in, but I think eventually they realize that tantrums will not let allow them to get their way.

We alos used time-outs when she got out of control, and s swat on the bottom for when she was either outright defiant or tried to hit one of us. It helped for me to maintain a calm, even tone, even when I felt like I wanted to scream inside!

Rest assured that this phase is not a poor reflection of your parenting! I think at this age they are dealing with a lapse between their developmental and cognitive abilities, and that is why they get so frustrated! My daughter has been much better for the last month: She only throws a tantrum maybe once a week, and they end quickly when we say calmly "Use your words". She is also more able to accept logic now; like if she is hungry and I am making dinner, I can say "Dinner is not ready yet, but it will be soon!" and she will say "Oh!" instead of throwing a fit about how she is hungry.

    Hang in there!

I've never had toddlers, but I teach middle school. I'm pretty sure they are big two-year-olds.

I once worked with a woman who had FOUR toddlers. She appeared sane, but maybe she wasn't. She was a little happier than the average person. Maybe she was medicated.

You will, but every age has it's challenge. My almost eleven year old is demonstrating pre-teen attitude. *sigh*
