I am SO excited! He proposed to me this afternoon when we were in the park. It was very, very sweet. I knew we would get married sometime soon, but I had no idea it was coming!!

And my parents are away for about a month, so I have to tell them over the phone, unfortunately.

    CONGRATS! :hugs:

I think I remember you mentioning that marrying your boyfriend was a possibility. Glad he popped the question!

Thank you all so much! I can't believe how excited I am! (I have about 70 tests to grade, but they are NOT getting done now!)

There's going to be a lot to do though. My fiance will be a medical resident in about a month, so I can't really expect him to help out too much on the planning because of his work hours. But overall, things have been going really, really well. He recently got into a residency program in Boston, which means that he/we won't need to move.

I think we're going to have a Indian wedding ceremony (so no bridesmaids necessary, but thanks for the offer Mike!). And we're hoping to have the wedding sometime next summer. I sort of wanted a December wedding, but that probably wouldn't be possible with school.

Thanks! Yup, we were considering it for about a year, but wanted to wait until I got a job and until he finished school.

Fun! My sister (who is not Indian) and her husband (who is) had two ceremonies. First, they had a traditional American service in her hometown for all of her friends, and a traditional Indian ceremony where his parents live for all of his friends. Both families went to both! So much fun! And, my other sister and I got be bridesmaids, and then later eat a lot of really good Indian food, which is my favorite! End of story: I now have three adorable little nephews and a brother-in-law I wouldn't trade for anyone. They did both christenings and rice ceremonies for the boys.

That's really cool! I love seeing cultures come together like that.

We have a teacher in our school getting married this summer. She's doing the same kind of thing, but is having just one ceremony. So it's a fusion wedding and it'll have Christian and Indian aspects in it. I can't wait to go!

One of my dearest Indian friends did a fusion wedding, but it was way more Indian that American. By that I mean it was at a zoo. And involved elephants. What can I say, the girl's got style! Speaking of style, one of my sister's favorite things about Indian culture is the clothes. Talk about comfortable! It is not odd to show up at her house some random afternoon and find her doing chores in a sari or other traditional Indian clothing. I love when I get invited to Indian events and get to get all dolled up. So pretty!

Congratulations! Residency is indeed a tricky time in which to schedule a wedding - but, depending on the program, it may be doable.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about it. I think he has 3 weeks off a year, but I don't think he can take two weeks off during the same cycle. We may need to delay the honeymoon for a few months in that case. But yeah, I'm not too thrilled about his schedule.
