I'm asking for good thoughts, good vibes, prayers, anything to be sent to my hubby. He has an upcoming job interview, the first one in years (since 04, pretty much). I won't go into the specifics, but let's just say that this is huge. And I'm terrified. My hubby woke me up last night upset. He's scared to death about this interview. He really wants this job. He's been depressed for years about not being able to find a job in his field, that he has passion for, and this is just huge for him. So, I am asking for you guys for this favor. BTW: his interview is in two weeks, but it doesn't hurt to start sending them now. I'll bump this thread up when it gets closer. Thank you very much.
I'll pray for your husband's interview. Can you pray for Rockhubby's interview a week from today? Shared nerves, hopefully, will lessen the wait.
We're prepping for Rockhubby's interview in the morning. Power dinner (well, burgers at one of our favorite greasy spoons) and then printing of some of his research highlights. I'll tuck him in early and make sure he has an espresso waiting for him in the morning before he can hit the snooze alarm a second time. If he'd let me lay out his suit for him and help him with his tie, I would. After tomorrow, full prayers are with Peachyness' husband!
Positive vibes being sent for both Rockhubby and Peachy's hubby! Hoping for wonderful outcomes for both of them.
Yes, how did it go, Cat? Your post reminded me to get on hubby's case about getting his suit tailored.
Rockhubby does NOT think it went well, unfortunately. His specialty, as his name suggests, is geology. He was given a massive exam in hydrology. While he had done some prep work, this is a subject he hadn't studied in years. Hopefully they'll see he is able to adapt and work in a variety of fields and gain knowledge as he hits the ground running. Peachyness, all prayers are to you and yours! I have a feeling he'll have a much easier time of it.
The interview was postponed from Friday to Monday so hubby's happy as this will give him a few extra days to study up and prepare.
Okay, so it is tomorrow. So any last minute thoughts, good energies, vibes, prayers will be gratefully accepted. Thanks.
My husband always plays up how fast of a learner he is and within his field he has held different jobs and moved up in spite of initially not knowing that area. He will study some before he leaves and mention that he has been studying up on it and he knows that this will not be a barrier for him. Basically he shows his confidence really well in interviews. Most companies want you to have specialities in your field but some of the specific details can be overlooked if your confidence and interview show that you are diversified and have the ability to be a quick study and you have the motivation and initiative in this area. On his last interview he was asked very specific questions and he didn't know the answers to a lot of them. He really thought he blew the interview. He got the job! It's important that you show what you know, but are honest about what you don't know but let your intelligence and confidence shine through and tell them how you plan to become more of an expert in this area. I have seen him, after he gets a new job, literally read up and study and take self exams in order to do his new job well all on his own initiative. By studying a little beforehand, even if it is off target with what they ask, he demonstrates that his willingness to learn on his own time. Ironically he has more issues with getting an interview but once he gets one, I have only seen him fail one interview in our entire 15 year marriage. Another one he was chosen but bumped when someone in house decided not to move, but I consider that a successful interview even though it didn't yield the job we wanted. He says his success at these interviews is all about confidence and letting them see his intelligence in the field whether or not it specifically 100% applies to that specific job.
By the way, not doing tip top on a test is not an end all. It could even be an opportunity to say that he enjoyed the test and is excited about working in this field but realize from a few of the questions that he needs to brush up more on x and y topics. Then emphasize that he has studied and worked with x before but needs a refresher and y is a new area but sounds like something that he can work with and he could say he is excited to expand his knowledge in this area. See how that works..... I can talk this game but I'm not as good at putting these into action myself. I just listen to my husband talk about his interviews. Lol.
Update: My husband recieved word from the boss that he pretty much got the job. They asked my hubby what he thinks his starting salary should be, his starting date will be in a couple of months. He is in shock, and I am very happy for him. He has been waiting 5 years for this and this company gave him the chance. It was NOT an easy interview (lasted from 9-4). Anyways, the only downfall is that I will have to resign from my job. I'm going to see how long I can stick it out there (at least until after state testing is over), we will need to rent out our house (will need to look into a managing company). Then, we have the little things we will need to worry about: change of address, moving, finding an apartment (hopefully with an ocean view!!! ), etc. THANK YOU GUYS so much for your thoughts and positive energies and prayers.

I am ready to move on. This is a new life for the both of us. THANK YOU GUYS so much for your thoughts and positive energies and prayers.
Peachy, though stressful, a move an be a fun and exciting adventure. We are in the middle of doing that at the moment as well and we've done it a few times. I'm hoping for ocean view too! My recommendation is to go to a book store and look for a travel book on the area you will be moving to. That always jumpstarts my enthusiasm for a new place. Do we have an update on rockhubby?
Cut, I actually despise moving because I moved so much growing up. I moved 20 times by the time I was 18. Then throw in the moves during college and after college and I am so over it. No, we were not a military family, just had a dad who couldn't settle down in one area. He got bored with his jobs and towns too easily.
