Hey guys, after weeks and weeks of worrying, I finally got a call from the director of personnel from one of the school districts I applied for. She listed a bunch of positions at different schools. The position I chose was a 7th grade science/social science position. I was so excited I was shaking, but now reality is starting to set in. I have to come up with a good classroom management/discipline plan. I have read the Harry Wong book, so I think I may have an ok outlook on that. I haven't even seen my classroom, or even met the principal yet! I interviewed with only the director of personnel, so the principal of the school I'll be working at doesn't even know who I am. I am so nervous, yet exited! I can't wait! Any tips/suggestions?

    Congratulations!!!

My first suggestion is a lobster dinner and a bottle of wine. Number 2: the biggest dessert on the menu!!!

It will all fall into place. For now, bask in this wonderful feeling-- and call EVERYONE you know!!!!

    Is this your first year?

    WONDERFUL!

I know in our district middle school students are broken into teams. If this is true for you, hold off on getting too into creating your plans until you met with your other team teachers. All the team teachers should have the exact same discipline plan and consequences (which is why I loved teaching middle school. Uniformity in discipline is essential!)

    Take pride!

haha, I will definitely have a nice celebration dinner. Yep, other than my one short two-month long-term sub position and student teaching, this will be my first year every teaching. I can't wait!

I'm so glad to have so many people to pull information out of. I am also glad to meet so many new teachers. This is great, because I don't feel so alone. I am, however, the underdog here, because I am doing an internship (student teaching on steriods). It's scary in a good way.

Wow, so this is going to be your first time EVER teaching? I know all about the intern thing. A few of my classmates in my credential program did this. I thought they were insane to teach, go to all of the required meetings and workshops, do the BTSA program AND go to school! I was thinking about doing that, but I chickened out and took the traditional route. I'm sure you'll day great. Congrats!

Terrence that sounds like the most perfect position! I wish I could get to teach science/social science! I'm in southwest Riverside and I don't think anyone around here has a position like that. Though, at this point I'd just like a job! I don't care what it is!
