I would live on a cruise ship for a year. Definitely a cook, maid and a chauffeur. I prefer somdone else driving when possible so I can talk to my heart's content. It's hard to lipread and drive. Oh and I would definitely have an interpreter on call. As far as material things... I can't think of any. Mine all revolve around vacation and someone else doing stuff so I don't have to.
Do you just want "little things" that we would like? Would hiring a personal grocery shopper qualify or is that too big of a request??? Not real sure what you want here, but I don't need new sox everyday!
I would love to drop off my clothes every week to be dry cleaned/laundered. Even better if they have a delivery service. I hate laundry. I'm not big on actually shopping anymore. Just do my chores and I'm a happy camper. I want to explore the world instead.
I would do one of two things. Either: 1. Hire people who would do everything for me so I could teach and do all my medicine and not get tired. Chef, house keeper, etc. or 2. I would travel everywhere and stay in really nice hotels and fly first class. Oh and I would stay at those really cool hotels, like the one underwater, that I have heard about. Oh, and I would buy a Chanel purse.
I would definitely pick the cool places over the fancy places any day. I want to hear about this underwater hotel! I would like to stay at the Atlantis Hotel and the ice hotel in Canada. I don't know too many but that would be ultra fun!
I think that most people wouldn't change their lives if they all of a sudden became very rich. But it's fun to think about what I would do if I did decide to change. It's like quitting work. I always imagined that I would wake up each morning and have coffee and do a crossword puzzle on the balcony then go to the farmers market and cook wonderful meals. Realistically, none of that has happened yet but its nice to think that I might do it
Shoes and purses - really nice ones...REALLY nice Personal trainer Too lazy to look back, but someone was having all unwanted air removed - I dream of that daily! Weekly pedi's Frivolous cosmetic purchases just because I could and it's fun Fully fund the best independent bookstore, cherry pick employees, pay them really well and then go hang out there after my pedicures No, I would not keep my job - I'd go volunteer somewhere else. I'd pay off all the bills for all the family, fully fund my kids' school needs, buy a new small (but not as small as this one) house, and save money, etc et. Etc. Be smart, be practical blah blah blah. The first half was a lot more fun to daydream about!
Yes, I love to shop, so I'd definitely have more clothing, shoes, handbags, watches, sunglasses, & jewelry than anyone needs in their lifetime. On the not crazy side, I'd travel all over the world & probably earn a PhD in Anthropology.
I would build a home shop so I could do woodworking. I would hire a dietitian/chef to fix all my meals. I would hire armed guards to keep me out of the kitchen at night... or anytime. I would buy my ex wife's house and give it to my son, he wants to live there. I buy a home for myself, in the mountains and build it into the side of a Mountain so it could be a "bomb shelter" for my family which could be self-sustaining for 2 to 5 years. I would build a private school and have it teach students not "data producers" and I'd hire many of the teachers here on A to Z (and they'd have a place in my "underground safe house" too). Oh since I'd be a Quadrillionaire (a one followed by 15 zeros) I Could give up to a million dollars to each of the 350 million United States citizens that are not millionaires, drug dealers or Felons, the catch would be you'd have to work to keep the money, (retirees excluded) if you were able to work and you don't, there would be a "breathing TAX." That would still leave me $650,000,000,000,000.00 Oh and I'd buy the US debt from China and I foreclose on the US government and as I'd be the trustee I make them put in NEW management (new elections) and I make sure that we got a balanced budget amendment put in and I'd make sure everyone had access to the internet. and... "ALL PERSONS ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS" Just call me Comrade Napoleon .... what book is that from?
I'm another one who would still work--I can't imagine not doing it! I would hire a housekeeper, take wonderful trips with my children and set up a scholarship program.
I would visit all of the zoos around the world that have pandas! I would LOVE to visit the Wolong panda reserve in China! That is a very real dream of mine, and I'm actually trying to save for that now. I've also had this fantasy, though, of winning the lottery and just giving money away to random people at random times. Like, I would love to be out shopping at Walmart or something, and see some family struggling in front of me at the check out line and just be able to say, "You know what? I got this one for you..." and pay for their groceries or whatever.
I would hire a personal shopper and a tailor (I'm very petite and have a hard time fitting into clothes). I'd go to school and study until I died with no thought to student loans. I'd hire a cook to give my husband a break! I'd clean my mom's house and have an interior decorator consult on what to do next (she'd love it!). Husband would get a gaming computer. I'd buy a lot of books! I wish there's more I could do, but the stuff I really want tends to be stuff I can't buy with money (a job, homes and love for all the kids at the psych hospital, give my siblings motivation to do something with their lives, etc.).
I've dreamed many times of what I would do I would win the lottery. For starters, I wouldn't move to another town until my daughter finished high school. I would right away pay full price for a slightly bigger house and hire a full time cleaning/cook lady. Every long weekend we would go to some exotic place until most of the world was explored. I would buy a vacation home in different countries such as Italy, France, Japan, etc. I would also buy homes for my love ones.
Here is what I would NOT do: I would not take a "dream vacation." I would not buy a new wardrobe except for shoes which I've always wanted custom made since one foot is a 12 1/2 and the other is a 13. I would not buy a new expensive car. I would not hire a personal chef. I'd find really good restaurants and eat there all the time. I would not buy a fancy, expensive carbon fiber racing bike. Instead I would go to frame building school and learn how to build my own bike. That way it would be just right. I would not buy a mansion. Instead, I'd buy a condo in Rincon Towers in SF and give my house to the kid next door and his girlfriend. He has a band and they need a place to practice. Then his parents could park their car in their garage again. And he has always dreamed of living next to his parents anyway.
I would keep working but every vaca I would travel. There's nothing money can buy that I would want more than to see the world. And... Move to large yet not completely obscene house on a beautiful piece of property in the area where I just was hired. Hire someone to teach me how to cook better and healthier. 1-800-merrymaids!!
Both of the above are great! Yes, I'd love to just be at random places going about my business & helping out strangers who I think deserve it. Such as a single mother w/ lots of kids, etc. It would feel so satisfying.
This is exactly what I would do! I always tell my hair stylist that someday when I am a trophy wife I am going to hire her to do my hair every day!
I might buy a castle on the shore and make it comfortable to live in and beautiful to look at. I've always liked the idea of being a princess worthy of a fairy tale. I think my cause would be childhood hunger problems.
I'd keep my house for a bit, but pay it off and install the hardwood floors and granite countertops I have been dreaming about. With every vacation, I would travel somewhere, even if it is for just 3-4 days at a time.
I'd rent the country of Lichtenstein (Only 70k a night!) I'd hire a chauffeur, as I cannot drive. I'd probably go to school for a while longer and just take whatever I want as I would have the money to just take courses for fun; something I haven't been able to do as no electives are allowed for education majors. I would get a financial advisor (probably my uncle who was a former Fortune 500 CFO) and set up a charity to help people with LDs and with the research of LDs, particularly dysgraphia. I would give four of my aunts and uncles money to resolve a recent squabble over inheritance that has arisen.
This thread reminds me of the thread about the perfect school or something. We ended up on a cruise ship. Does anyone remember that thread?
For the whole country? I'd do that--there's a town there with the same name as my maiden name; I'd love to visit.
I would hire a car and driver that would take me to school each day and then home again. It would be nice to have that commute time to relax or plan or read. I'd hire a maid that would put crisp, clean sheets on the bed each day.
The first 2 things I would do if I came across that large pot of money (say tomorrow). 1. Walk into work Monday morning with my letter of resignation. I would work Monday, and that would be my last day, give time for goodbyes and good lucks, etc. I've always wanted to be able to walk and say I am leaving with that "take this job and shove it" mentality. Great Song. 2. I would buy tickets to 17 regular season games at 17 different stadiums for this upcoming football season. Visiting 17 stadiums that I have never been to to watch those games would be a blast. Potential Silly Expense: Pay someone to clean my house 3 times a week. I hate spending my time cleaning when I could be doing many other things.
Bob why stop at football I'd get tickets to all baseball stadiums also Hockey & Basketball and some College football too heck I'd buy a team.... I like the cleaning thing
I guess it all depends on the amount of money one were to dream of coming into. I never imagine coming in to so much that I could afford buying a team. As for baseball games, that would have to wait until next summer and basketball, well that will probably have to wait until NEXT fall.
Well with Lichtenstein, they offer a whole package. Like cheese and wine tasting straight from the prince's stores. They apparently have good museums in Lichtenstein and other stuff like that
I'd take my son to see a baseball game in every ball park--that's on my "bucket list"--I'd better get started!
