    Hi,

If you had a wish, what would you wish for in your teaching career? Have someone write your lesson plans? Have someone talk to parents for you? Have someone grade papers for you? What would you wish for?

If I had a wish for my teaching career, there would be no politics involved in teaching. I would be able to teach and my students would be able to learn without restrictions. Testing would again become a part of teaching rather than the reason for teaching. I would assess my students using authentic assessments that actually show me what they know and are capable of doing. They would be able to relax and enjoy being children again and learning would be fun. Recess would make an immediate comeback.

That I could close my door and just teach. Take away the meetings, the politics, the reorganization (I need to move classrooms in a couple of weeks), the interruptions, etc. Give me class sizes that allow me to meet the needs of all of my students.

I would wish to be viewed (both by the public and my principal) as the professional that I am. I wish to be compensated at a rate comperable to other professions with similar years of training and professional development. I wish to be able to teach the things that are important for my kids to be successful in life, not just successful on tests.
I wish that each of my students will grow up to be happy, healthy, successful, contributing citizens of our community.

I wish that my parents would take an interest in their child's education. I wish they would take the opportunity of free English classes so that they would better understand how to help their kids. I wish that in a school of 600 kids, at least 50 parents would show up for Open House to meet the teacher.

To be able to teach without all the pressure of politics and high-stakes testing.

Sometimes (well, just about every November) I just wish the year wouldn't end. I hate having to send some kids off to a new grade knowing I'm not gonna spend each day with them again.

Only one wish? Thats hard. I agree with all of the responces. But I guess I would wish for a higher regard for education in general. In hopes that that will lead to politics getting out of education, better pay/benifits, more funding....etc

I would wish that parents and teachers would be able to accept children for who they are, not keep demanding they be who they are not. And that children would be able to have fun learning all the way through school. Fun is such a great motivator!

And I would really wish that all the cranky people would get out of the school and quit belittling and harming the little people.

Maybe not my only wish, but I wish that students were required to be 7 years old before entering first grade!

I want to be the teacher that kids think back on as the teacher who influenced them most positively in their lives. I'd LOVE to know one of my former students went into teaching because of me, just as I did because of Mrs. Neuman.

More adults in the school. It is so hard to reach 30 students when there are 30 students in the class with one adult. I would love to have an aide for part of the day. Smaller class size would be fabulous.

#1: That I would never have to experience a student's death. That is too tragic for words.

#2: The system demanded that students learn what will truly will benefit them in life.

#3: That all parents cared, and that all parents were capable of physically, emotionally, and economically supporting their children as they should be.

#4: That I would impact many children's lives just as my former teachers did mine.

    #5: Higher salary.

I wish that my professional opinion was respected consistently by parents and my co-workers. I wish I had unlimited resources to help my students in any way that is possible. If a child needed a trip to Washington D.C to learn the constitution, I would be able to take them on that personal field trip. I wish that society realized the importance of education by recognizing that teachers are the key to helping the human race succeed in the future. I wish every child was valued more than any amount of money and they knew the worth and were reminded each and every day. (sigh)

#1- I wish that every teacher in every school district from Pre-K to
    6th grade could have a teacher's aide.

#2- I wish that professional sport teams such as football, basketball, hockey, golf, tennis, etc. would have to pay a percentage of their salaries to school districts in their perspective states. This would eliminate lack of funding in education.
Afterall, they all had to be educated by teachers..:)

#3- I wish that all teacher salaries could begin with $50,000. We deserve to make as much as doctors, lawyers, etc.

That none of my children over the years were "touched" by any of those A**holes out there...if I couldn't have that...That I could have all of their whereabouts and spend the final part of my career with a bat in my hand.

I would wish for better parenting and max class sizes of 16 for one teacher. And for students to have at least one hour (60 min) every day of math, reading, writing, science, and history/geography/civics but not called social studies.
