I work with a teacher who is retiring this year and I want to do something different for her as a gift-but I don't know what to get. She doesn't plan on doing anything for awhile after the summer-doesn't travel or garden or anything like that. Her only child is a canine one. I thought about doing a little basket with things like bubble bath and a few good reads-but I'm not sure of her tastes.

    Any suggestions?

Maybe a magazine subscription or a basket with comfy socks, bubble bath, and a nice magazine....

When I did a long-term sub at a school with 3 teachers retiring one of the teachers went and bought a copy of Dr. Suess' "All the Places You'll Go" and had the students sign inside the covers.

I know this is pretty old hat.

But how about a watch, with a letter about how you value the gift of all the time she spent with you and with the kids?

I am retiring after next year and I think great gifts would be GIFT CARDS--to restaurants, grocery stores, I-tunes the movies. Those are things that will have to be cut back after retirement and I think would be more useful than than bubble bath (since I only have a walk-in shower!)socks--those things would cost more than a $10 gift certificate. But that is just me-you know your teacher friend better.

I'd like something with the kids.

I recently got a quilt and each class made a square. It is priceless. I know that's a bit hard to do and should be a entire school that gets in on it but the idea of the kids being involved is a good one.
