Well, we just got out of school for our 'summer break' and I am already planning for the new school year!! -lol- Our theme is going to be Ocean Theme (1st and 2nd grades) and I am searching for some ideas and also I would like to 'spice up' my calendar board for next year if anyone has any pictures that would be great!! Thanks
Jellyfish, sunken treasure chest, adorable tropical fish, scuba divers.... the list goes on and on...
I did an ocean bulletin board my first year of teaching. I had a treasure chest and I just had big, colorful fish around it and put each child's name on a fish.
I love the Ocean theme too! But have never done it at the beginning of the school year. Though, I have seen a few teachers start off that way.
I'm already planning my theme and decor, too Here are some ideas for you: Small toy fishing pole as a pointer for calendar Netting (like those stuffed animal nets) on bulletin boards Life Savers as life preservers for a treat blow up raft as reading center Fish on a "stringer" to count up to 100th day There are so many ideas you could use. Have fun!!!!
When I teach my ocean unit, I bring in a small kiddie pool and place it in my classroom library. The kids love it! I add several bins (sunglasses, goggles, leis, straw beach hats, etc.) and let the kids choose 1 to wear while in the library. In addition to having ocean stuff at your local teacher supply store, I would check out party supply stores. My family and I dressed up in an ocean theme for a parade and we found LOTS of stuff at the party store! Have fun!
I have pictures from my classroom when I did the ocean theme on my website: www.clutterfreeclassroom.com. It's under the themes section. I'm also going to do a "theme's week" on my blog next week. The link is below.
The dollar stores have tons of luau/beach decorations right now and so does Oriental Trading Co. Last year we went "Under the Sea in ELD" and my kids made easy origami whales (http://whale.wheelock.edu/OperationHumpback/Origamiwhale7.pdf) that they colored and then I attached yarn and we hung them from the ceiling so we had a whole pod of whales swimming around us!
you could read rainbow fish and have a buliten board of rainbow fish that the kids make. Some catchy phrases: Catch of the day... Smell'n fishy! (cute for mysteries unit) We went under the sea to see what we could see, see, see and we saw.... (writing prompt) While I was scuba diving I found a....
