Can I get some ideas from you all? My brain is at a big-time loss right now! so far, I have: legos blocks string blocks Potato head (several) Bristle blocks I have plenty of puzzles, playdo and games, so I don't need those.
Doggy! Doggy! Where's your Bone? Well! I obviously didn't READ the last part of your post! -The little plastic fruits; apples, bananas, grapes, oranges, pears and pineapples that come in a candy looking bottle. I do the counting, sorting and patterning with these and the children love it. I also do, What doesn't belong?, What's missing? (I have them close their eyes, then I remove 1 or 2, and then they open their eyes and they can answer right away or raise their hands in order to answer.) The number of games you can do with these little fruits are a day's worth of learning! My class get really creative with these now. The colors come into play, the Math thingy; order, first, second, third, last; the shapes, the beginning sounds, favorite fruit, favorite color, etc... IT GOES ON AND ON! -Books...I have the children look for the Sound/Letter of the Week -Newspapers...I have the children go through and CIRCLE the letter of the Week. You can count with each child; (Got time?) to see how many they found. -Clapping the syllables of their names. I sit them @ Circle time according to the number of syllables in their names. -Have children state their names STARTING with the Letter of the Week. You have to make sure you don't have a Mitch when it's letter Bb, Cassie when it's letter Aa, Sam when it's letter Dd, and Chuck when it's Ff. This is it for now. I will add more when my brain cells warm up! Rebel1
wow Rebel, you are creative! You threw me off with your Doggy, Doggy, Where's Your Bone? I really do love the newspaper idea. hehe; that will really keep them busy! Love it! I've never done the syllabal handclapping either and how easy is that?! Thanks for sharing.
I forgot to add READ, etc. I corrected it. I realized after I keyed it that you mentioned you already had a lot of games. I bet "Doggy" is one of them. The children really enjoy the Syllable clapping because they are making noise and everyone else SHUTS up when each child takes a turn. Rebel1
