One icebreaker to ease them all in is to handout notecards and on the back have them list their "favorites". For example, favorite movie, favorite color, favorite food. Then, you read your own, and have them read theirs. I also will generally have them write down their goals for the school year.

I did a skittles/M&M game during student teaching where they each got their own mini bag and had to pick out three and answer questions that corresponded to their color like "Which fictional person should be POTUS?" or "What's your favorite movie?"

Thanks for posting these...I was just thinking about this this AM and didn't think to search "ice breakers". Last year I had them each decorate a puzzle piece that represented thme...it was ok but not as much fun as I imagined.
